Hello!

I just received an email asking to bring the TL to my LBS for a battery firmware update. Apparently it is for better performance, so I guess it is not really mandatory.

Did you receive the same or have any insight about it?

No firmware update was mandatory ... I guess you'll have to wait at least a few weeks to get a feedback from first riders if they feel any difference at all ...

Just updated the app and also found that there is an update for the battery. I am skeptical of bringing the bike to the shop though, why can't it be applied OTA like every other component? I have no pleasure paying extra $20 for a piece of software that can be easily downloaded through the app, exactly the way it has before.

Well, probably by design they did not foresee battery upgrade (like for the tcu). BTW I agree that paying for it is not really a pleasure. I share the same feeling from this point of view.

In the Mission Control App is no update available for the battery. Although i received the email from Spesh, i'm not convinced to visit the LBS. Should any mandatory update be visible in the app?
@Sheer Thrill : does your app mention an update to battery? If so, which firmware number is indicated?

It does, the latest firmware update is 2.6.6 versus my current version which is 2.5.4 (700Wh for Gen2 Levo). I also have a spare 500Wh battery which I will connect later today and see if there is an update for it as well.

Here in the USA, there was also an update to the Mastermind TCU that *can* be installed via the app.

I got the 'visit LBS for battery firmware update' email, but I am satisfied with the bike's performance and my remaining battery life. It ain't broke, so ...

I am on the latest app version (Apple ios) and no luck.
The only available update on the app is for the display (as said before).
The battery update information comes by email and it's only possible going to your LBS.

Had a 2019 Kenevo that I derestricted with Liteblue. Never updated, never let my local dealer touch that bike. Totally trouble free, rode it hard for almost three years, and sold it still going strong. Got a new 2022 Levo and have done the same and will never let the dealer touch it. And just for more shits and giggles, also have a 2019 Triumph SS, that will never see the dealer, either, and has run perfect.

I got the same email. I took my bike in and the tech in the LBS told me he had no idea what the update actually does. I’ll have to assume it is for battery management. I haven’t noticed any difference, other than A confirmation on the TCU that the update was done.

Spec told my LBS That the update was too large for Bluetooth. Took them about 25 minutes to install.

Did the update yesterday on my Gen 2 Turbo Levo at my LBS. Then took the bike on my typical 18mi, 4000k ft elevation, 100% Turbo loop. Before the update I finished around 30% battery remaining. After the update I finished around 30% battery left. No change. So far I see no issue with doing the update.

When releasing OTA firmware updates ~2 years ago spesh said battery won't be updatable OTA...

I won't be rushing to do mine after reading elsewhere that his battery capacity dropped right down to 639wh after full charge

It's probably more a question of making sure the complete update is installed. That is always easier with a cable than wireless. If you walked off to the bathroom and lost the connection, you might easily brick your bike. So large updates might be better installed at the LBS for no other reason than risk of failure is much higher than a smaller one which might easily be done with a binary patch.

I could have sworn the last update included a battery patch as well and I did that OTA.

I get why you wouldn't take your JB bike in but I kinda like going to my LBS. They just had a Hugh Jass dirt demo day and have new bikes and other "stuff" so it's always a great opportunity to swing by and say hello. Plus, they are cool people.

Diagnostics battery care
Mine just displays battery heath as a percentage. If the battery health percentage dropped after the update then that's actually a good thing. That would prevent overcharging and other oddities.

The fact that the battery may actually be prematurely unhealthy is another issue.

No it's not your loosing battery performance, they've done it so it looks like your conserving more percentage when in actual fact you've lost more storage. What was a 700wh battery, is now a 639wh.
