Avinox M2s rattle

The noise generated in that video is 100% going to appear on all motors to some degree, that is simply backlash in the gear sets which cannot be removed without removing all tolerances from the gears and having a gearset which wont turn. The reason some people hear it after a few rides is the grease gets distributed and no doubt when the motor warms up the tolerances increase to some extent. You are totally wasting your time chasing that backlash sound, even if you get a new motor that will do it also after a time. It is 10x quieter than the M1 and the m2 doesn't do it on every bump, but its not a fault - would be nice if it was totally 100% silent but not possible to remove all backlash with that design.

With a working solution which eliminates gear backlash, this should not happen.

This is from Avinox website, motor being quiet by eliminating backlash is one of their selling points:

Indeed, but as it says… ‘reducing’ pedal kickback noise… not removing kickback noise…

Then you should have this kickback noise from new, not after you ride it for several 100's miles ...

It will be a mass produced motor in a factory where during assembly a big glob of grease will applied over the gears, that will distribute and thin down slightly after some miles.

Yeah but mine is doing it on every bump. You even dont have to go fast or rowdy. The sound is kind of like a Shimano EP801 does.
If it is true, what you say, avinox should say the motor is quiter and not totally silent.

They do not say that (totally silent) they say noise is kept below 45 I think i recall - The Avionix M2S drive unit was specifically optimized to reduce sound, with a sound pressure level not exceeding 45dBA.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love my m2s to be totally silent, but it’s not going to be sadly

<45dbA is what Amflow advertise, so most definitely a selling point. However they do word it as 'Reduced' for the M2S. In their 'Ultimate Silence' tagline.

Exactly, reduced not silent. I hold my hand up to not fully reading that before selling my PL Pro to buy the PX pro, and whilst the m2s is def quieter it’s not totally silent. Do I regret the change because of that, no, it’s still much quieter, smoother and more efficient, but any prospective buyer should know it is not silent and has some degree of rattle, might take a ride or two to move the grease about but there will be some noise at some point.

yep, I agree, it's very quiet and doesn't consistently rattle on every bump like the m1, and even when it does rattle it's much quieter than the m1
