Even though Bosch has a history of increasing power-output on their motors, I was surprised to hear about the SX update. After all, it’s been a while since the motor was launched. We have ridden an updated Bosch SX (60 Nm) for a few weeks now. Read more ...

Thank you for that article and testing. I was looking into the „old“ SX for a trekking ebike but did go for CX due to high cadence needed on the SX
Well, when reading this test I started wondering if there is still a market for the SX as there are Avinox bikes that are offering more power and reach at same or even lower bike weight.

My SX powered bike has become one of my favourite bikes to ride this last few months, it has plenty of power for me and my riding, just takes the misery out of the hills!

After that, it feels like an actual mountain bike to ride, and not too heavy compared to my other ‘full powered’ bike.

I’m looking forward to the update and the addition of EMTB+ mode.

Looking forward to this update! The only pity is the rattle. I now also have a CX Gen 5 bike, and the rattle of the SX is very annoying. I hadn’t noticed it before, when I had a Gen 4 motor...

I’ve heard people talk about the rattle, as well as in the review piece above, but I’ve yet to hear anything from mine.

Perhaps it will start as it gets more miles on it, mine is only on a few hundred so far, or maybe I don’t ride the terrain that shows it up?

Well, if you don’t have a second, silent bike, you won’t notice it. Simple as that. It’s something you only notice once you’ve gotten used to something else :)

I mainly ride a Shimano E8000, a Mahle SL1.1, an X35 on a gravel bike and the Bosch SX. All rattle free so far and hope they stay that way!

Off-road biking is a noisy affair though isn’t it, but I can imagine once a motor rattle noise gets into your head then it’s annoying!

I assume Bosch did not give any new information about release date? The last update said "Fall 2025" and it is now Fall...

I'm eagerly awaiting the update! I'm hoping it'll be out late next week, but my Bosch contact said sometime in the first half of October.

Update for the Flow app on iOS ist out. Includes
  • 60 Nm, 400% max support and eMTB+ mode for the SX motor
  • the Kiox 400C display can now be configured just like the Knox 300 and 500, plus more config options for all three
  • navigation routing can now follow original track without re-routing but also without spoken prompts
  • added support for more eShift solutions
  • QR code for error codes on display to make it easy opening correct Bosch error description

Latest Flow app now available for Android too.

I'll see what I can do, not many Fazua powered emtbs to demo in Norway.
Maybe more anecdotally- the R60 doesn't require a high cadence for motor output, I was just curious if you had any time on the Fazua and could comment on how the 2 compare

Could I ask the same vs TQ her 60, Esp at slightly lower cadences. (70-95)

I really like my exe/50 but it’s not got quite enough power/torque for me, I can update to a hpr60 motor but my I **think** the Bosch sx was always a bit more powerful, esp at lower cadences., and allegedly the Bosch update improves things at lower cadences. Thanks

It's been so long since I rode the R60, so I really can't say for sure. My guess is the SX has a tad more assistance at lower cadence. Which seems plausible considering Fazua claims 350% amplification vs 400% for the SX.

Yes as a simple formula, what we dont know is how these manufactures are measuring power vs what is actually hitting the rear wheel.
No one at this point in time is publishing how they are measuring their output

So that brings us back to the only other source of information, a rider, which inherently has its own bias's that skew results

The Bosh SX has like 600w peak doesn’t it? It’s far more powerful than the TQ which is now 300w max output?

My wife’s bike has the Bosch SX. It was already more powerful than my TQ50 on my bike, but with the 60 Nm update it leaves my motor in the dust. Yes, TQ50 = 300W and Bosch SX = 600W. <—not sure if Bosch is embellishing this number but it is far more powerful than the TQ and has some decent overrun capability.

It does provide 600 Watts, but only at high cadence. So if you are not using it in the range where it delivers the most power. You won't notice the extra power. EMBN did a video on it, comparing it to the CX motor, before the CX motor was upgraded to 750 watts.

I can help out here.. I own an Ex-e with TQ HPR50 and test rode a weekend on a (pre update) Bosch SX Merida. The Bosch is miles more powerful than the TQ, on my limited testing I would say its nearly twice as powerful at peak. Yes in lower cadences its not providing full 600w but I'd guess somewhere around 400-500w. Its night and day difference to the TQ, I also own a Bosch CX and in higher cadences the SX feels very close to the CX (gen4).

The TQ is a much better form factor and its silent up and downhill but the SX does rattle a bit like my CX does but I barely notice it. YMMV of course

I think one aspect of the new update is lowering the cadence required t access the full power.
