Never had this happen before, was just out on a quick ride when I felt something crawling on my scalp like it was inside my helmet. Had one of those “elephant being afraid of the mouse” moments and quickly stopped, dropped my bike, and ripped off my helmet to feel a painful sting as I was taking it off. Don’t know what the hell the chances are of a bee finding its way inside one of the vents on my helmet while going about 10mph, but that sucked!

I think there’s a hidden message here; go faster than 10mph. 😉

Many years ago was riding motorcycles in France with Mrs irie on country roads. Very hot day so had my leathers partially unzipped. Suddenly felt sting back of my neck. Stopped at the side of the road and put my right foot down. Nothing there, couldn't touch the ground so fell over and bike fell on top of me (185kg Aprilia RSV1000). Kept getting stung down my back with Mrs creased up laughing at me! She finally levered the bike off me then realised that when pulled the top of my leathers off that my back was badly stung.

A few years ago 2-3) , while do some trail maintenance, I was bothered by a buzzing sound. I was unknowingly standing on top of a hornet’s nest (not wasps).

After the first sting I moved my position. Then another sting. Then I started running down the trail. 12 stings later and 50meters down the trail they finally stopped. When I ripped off my helmet …I found another. Yet another was stuck in my glove.

Since I was alone, and not sure if I was going to have a reaction, I got my emergency contacts ready.

Nothing happened … but each sting hurt like hell-o. 🐝

They can kill you!

A couple of weeks ago I ride through a swarm of horse flies. One got caught in a hole in my helmet and neither of us was happy about it. It started biting the shit out of my scalp until I pulled over and yanked off my helmet. Not as bad as being stung, but not pleasant. 🪰

I found out later that wasp will swarm, but hornets will chase down the threat. So I assume they were hornets. They look the same except hornets are slightly bigger.

I didn’t have time to check that out …because at the time I was being stung.…multiple times. OUCH!🤕

Some of those things will follow you far! Didn’t get to see what got me today, I heard some buzzing after I took my helmet off but couldn’t find it. Hurt like hell, whatever it was. Still feels like someone whacked me in the head with something good several hours later, must have been a nasty one.

Once I was falling a large cedar (10-12’ diameter). My bar and chain must’ve cut into a wasp nest because I was surrounded …and they started attacking my chainsaw. I bailed.

I sat on a stump at a safe distance (20-30’ away) and watched the wasps cover my chainsaw. After 20+ minutes my saw finally ran out of gas. I then ran up and grabbed my saw. Went to the next tree. Never got stung.

A few days later the wasps were gone.

Could be your nether regions .. that would smart ..

I was cutting my grass with a push mower in North Carolina. The land is steep and I ran over a hornets nest under ground and was stung on the back of my right hand. I immediately started to run down the hill leaving the lawn mower there which they completely surrounded. I started rolling down the hill. They stayed on that lawn mower for what seemed like an hour.

I was helping winterize a pool once, which required running an air compressor outside, and I had managed to sit the thing right on top of a yellow jacket nest. Needless to say, they weren't too happy about that once it started running.

A video of your escape would be priceless. 👍🏻
Remember that for next time. 😉

Perhaps some brave soul on these forums can re-create the moment while taking a video. I’m sure a gif. could be created that could teach us of some unique and helpful escape techniques. (“If I only had a camera “)😉
