Almost bought that bike but the post-meal python downtube kinda left me at half mast.Right ?
I have a hard time loving my crafty xr, because it looks like a snake that swallowed a 4x4 fence post, despite it being the best descending e-bike I've laid my hands on yet.
It checks all the boxes academically, reliable drivetrain, hot swappable batteries, outstanding geo, outstanding kinematics, reasonably lightweight... and I find myself ready to swap it out for an e druid based simply on aesthetics.View attachment 174595
Canyon is in a tough spot at the moment. Shimano was the one motor maker that did not offer a battery package, instead they let the bike maker outsource their own battery. This sounds great, but in reality having a 3rd party build you an EMBT battery with the motor manufacturer out of the picture was a disaster just waiting to happen and Canyon was the victim. Canyon has lost millions as a result, because they couldn’t sell EP Shimano bikes and had to put stop use on the ones they sold. To their credit they made things right with a new battery which was no easy task since the company that made the defective ones basically bailed on Canyon.Seeing "new" Canyons being released with battery improvements but still with the Shimano ep6 and ep801 does give me hope that they are still in the game (Shimano, not Canyon).
Strangely silent from the Japanese giants though...
Thanks a lot - this is very interesting information!
I noticed a new motor unit, DU-EP810, listed in Shimano’s official technical documents, but I haven’t been able to find any specs or other info yet. Has anyone seen anything credible, or heard any rumors?
I’d be interested to see what they do.Thanks a lot - this is very interesting information!
Also a new DU-EP610 is listed in this document.
I wil be on the Eurobike exhibition (the worlds largest bike exhitibion) in Frankfurt on June 24th (where Shimano normally has released new products in the last years, like the venerable DU-EP801 in 2022, so 4 years ago) and so maybe (hopefully) there will be some surprises.![]()
Due to the wording "DU-EP810" and (not e.g. DU-EP900) I guess rather "conservative", so "evolution" rather than "revolution". But that is just a simple personal guess...I’d be interested to see what they do.
Conservative and “ordinary” or cutting edge and pushing the boundaries?
Time will tell I guess.
Don't think Shimano are attending Eurobike this year iirc. Thanks a lot - this is very interesting information!

Friends and colleagues of us wil be on the Eurobike exhibition (the worlds largest bike exhitibion) in Frankfurt on June 24th (where Shimano normally has released new products in the last years, like the venerable DU-EP801 in 2022, so 4 years ago) and so maybe (hopefully) there will be some surprises.![]()
I think it's fine if the outside form factor of the motor remains the same but the internals and torque/power numbers will need a big boost. Better batteries and a more modern display also. Can't see them winning back any brands without this.Due to the wording "DU-EP810" and (not e.g. DU-EP900) I guess rather "conservative", so "evolution" rather than "revolution". But evolution would be better than nothing...
First Shimano publicly stated that they will not attend at Eurobike this year, but they currently have releaded that THEY WILL (but only with a smaller booth in the outside area and not occupying most parts of a complete exhibition hall like in the last years)...Don't think Shimano are attending Eurobike this year iirc.
...exactly - Avinox and Bosch are far ahead currently...I think it's fine if the outside form factor of the motor remains the same but the internals and torque/power numbers will need a big boost. Better batteries and a more modern display also. Can't see them winning back any brands without this.
I think you should be able to get these (spare-) parts from the German dealership of the "new" YT - headquarter in Germany (again).I'd be happy just to get a wiring harness and parts in general for my TY Decoy core 4 yr 2024 and it's Shimano system![]()
Canyon is simply using up inventory from the ‘stop use” back in the day. I think they are offering a very good and affordable bike that would make most buyers very happy. With that being said, Canyon is basically in recovery mode as the battery problem cost the company about $14 million. Once they get past this nightmare you’ll see some new stuff that won’t contain a Shimano motor.Seeing "new" Canyons being released with battery improvements but still with the Shimano ep6 and ep801 does give me hope that they are still in the game (Shimano, not Canyon).

I completely agree and assume the same.Canyon is simply using up inventory from the ‘stop use” back in the day. I think they are offering a very good and affordable bike that would make most buyers very happy.
I also assume that the battery nightmare (which I think Canyon managed in a very transparent, reliable and customer-friendly way, even if it took quite long time and many involved owners maybe didn´t see it like that) was quite costly for Canyon in definitely in the range of many millions. However, do you have any "official" link to the $14 millions?company about $14 million.
I again agree with this statement and believe in the same, however, is there any evidence or information already that Canyon will not use Shimano drive units anymore in the future?Once they get past this nightmare you’ll see some new stuff that won’t contain a Shimano motor.
Avinox had Canyon listed as a partner on their website although still no sign of a bike.I again agree with this statement and believe in the same, however, is there any evidence or information already that Canyon will not use Shimano drive units anymore in the future?
