Not really… From 2019 to 2025, Giant e-bikes can fit an 800Wh battery thanks to the frame design. So you can start with a 500Wh or 625Wh battery, and upgrade to 800Wh later if needed—which is pretty nice. It’s not the slimmest-looking frame, but it’s definitely practical if you want or need the extra range in the future.
The new motor runs on 48V, so it’s not a compatible system, but it uses the same interface. So I guess it could be possible to retrofit it by replacing both the motor and the battery, right?
Not sure if you read my post carefully as I was referencing to the 750wh battery that Giant sold for pretty much only a year.
This battery was using a larger external casing than the current 500/625/800 format.

The main difference between the 500Wh, 625Wh, 750Wh and the newer 400Wh and 800Wh are the cells used, the older packs used 18650 cells the new packs use 22700 cells.Sure, I got it.... maybe I didn’t express myself correctly. The design accommodates 750 and 800 batteries, which is where the big height difference lies compared to the 500 and 625.
The 750 and 800 batteries are very similar, with only a 2mm height difference between them; the 750 being slightly taller.
As I mentioned, the major difference is in comparison to the 500 and 625, since the height difference from the 625 to the 800 is 5mm, and 7mm compared to the 750.
My conclusion is that the design wasn’t made specifically for the 750 battery, but rather for the 800, which eventually became standard across all later bikes.
The 750 battery was more of a temporary solution for some 2022 bikes, and it wasn’t even sold separately as an accessory. Then the 800Wh battery finally arrived a few months later.
It was a bit unusual, such were the post-pandemic times were.![]()
I had heard they could launch it during Crankworx Whistler with a potential release in September or October. I didn’t think it would have a removable battery though and that prototype looks like it has a removable battery cover like the old one.
Looks no worse than the new Levo or any Gen 5 Bosch bike with a removeable battery imo.Still looks preggers if you ask me, was hoping for something that looks sleeker like the Amflow.
Yeah, looks about the same as those, which IMO aren’t very good. The Amflow just looks so sleek compared to these new bikes.Looks no worse than the new Levo or any Gen 5 Bosch bike with a removeable battery imo.
The aglow does not have a removable battery and its carbon, Rotwild just released a removable battery bike with the DJI motor still carbon so slimmer but about 12k I thinkYeah, looks about the same as those, which IMO aren’t very good. The Amflow just looks so sleek compared to these new bikes.
Any news?Looks like an August roll-out for the new Reign E+... The specs picture published earlier this year also seems right on.![]()
Like @Redlemon said, the bike will be available for immediate delivery when announced. Hopes were for a Crankworx Whistler intro that didn't happen but it is imminent anyways (sept or early Oct)Any news?
Saw pictures of the new Reign today. As predicted on this thread it's all carbon, small battery (around 450wh iirc) but comes with a 250wh range extender included. PWX4 motor (48volt, 90nm), longer travel suspension, horrible one piece carbon bar and stem combo (to my eyes at least). There's a new display on the top tube and handlebar mounted mode switch with much bigger buttons and it has built in security (airtag type thing for tracking it and the ability to disable the bike remotely).
Similar lines to the outgoing bike but BB looks higher, down tube slimmer, so a family resemblance but all new. Claimed significant weight savings but no figures for overall weight. Availability is imminent (here in the UK at least).
Whether they've done enough to compete with DJI even in the short term is open to question and if they're looking at another four year model run with minimal updates I think they're barking up the wrong tree.
