Other 2025 Rail Gen5 bikes

I've now had mine a couple of weeks and first repoirts are its great.
Ive come from a Yeti SB160E and previously a Rail Gen4.
The motor is solid and does what you expect (still a little noisey on the downs)
I've never really gel'd with Mixed Wheels before but this feels more like a 29er and does not feel like its slowing you down.

Anything you want to know please just ask :)

You mentioned having a Gen4; how would you compare that with this new (and gorgeous) Gen5? Wondering specifically about: Battery and whether it rattles as has been mentioned elsewhere for older models, differences between the motor feel, other ride comparison thoughts that you wish to share.

I'm coming from a Spectral:ON w/ an EP801 (sold back to Canyon, long-ish story) and need to find something else. Rail is my top choice. I think I want a Gen5 but those aren't available in my size/location until June (per Trek). I could get a good deal on a Gen4 but I'm hesitant about the battery rattling and being a gen behind.

Hi, The motor has a much more natural feel to it, more like the EP801 which is a good thing in my eyes.
Battery lift is fantasic and no rattle or noises from the battery.
The motor feels stronger across the cadance range and my times on the Gen5 Rail and significantly faster that the Gen 4 rail, both up and down.

Interesting! Agree that the EP801, for me at least, felt good overall. You mentioned that the Gen5 is closer than a Gen4 --> that pretty much makes up my mind to wait for the Gen5 to become available. Gonna be difficult to be sitting on the sidelines until then once the trails open up for the season.

About cadence, are you a fast, mid or slow cadence rider?

Thank you for the feedback!

I tick over at about 80 going upto 90 and 70 when I feel lazy ;)

those of you who have the bike, how tall are you and which size do you ride? I am between sizes at 1,80m

I'm 6'2". Riding a large and I think it fits great.

FWIW, I swapped out the bar and stem before I ever rode it stock. Currently have a RaceFace Next R 35 with 20mm rise and a 50mm RaceFace Turbine-R stem.

I’m 5ft 7in and mines a Large, I swapped out the bars straight away, I’m normally on a medium but it seemed tiny when I sat on one, the Large is perfect.

I'm 179 and after testing both M & L, chose L even that it felt slightly too long for my taste, but by switching the stock 45 mm long stem to 35 mm and different bent handlebar it feels now perfect.

Good discounts on the GEN 5 rails , rail 5 down to £3899 , rail 8 can be had for £4999 and the carbons 9.7 £5499 and the 9.8 £6499.
I got a Rail 5 and have upgraded the fork to a RockShox Lyrik Ultimate Charger 3.1 RC2 Fork , left the shock as is for now

How is the RAIL+ holding up? How is the range with 800wh? How is the power with the new update?

The price drop was needed and I think I will do the same and buy the 5 and fit my hope wheels brakes and zeb 170 with rpm lift damper

I'm riding an old (2020) Cannondale Moterra 3 with 5,800km of trails behind me. It's starting to feel like time to upgrade and the Rail+ Gen 5 is looking good for my price range.
Are there any good stores that would consider part-ex? I'm in Sussex, so preferably somewhere nearby.
P.S - let me know if this should be posted into a different thread...

yes I am 5ft 8 and went with a large also , the medium felt too small , shame they don't do like they used to a M/L , that was perfect for me
Changed to a 40mm riser bar and put my old Joystick binary stem on it ,35mm , sorted now , Gen 5 Rail 5 with a up-graded Lyric fork , kept the shock stock.

I'm currently on the previous version Rail and have been plagued by issues with the battery, lock and connections moving/rattling/disconnecting/falling out completely. Everything has been replaced multiple times and I've run through all the tricks.
From what I see in the thread, the Gen5 doesnt suffer from these issues. Is that the consensus? I had hoped for a non-removable battery and (based on appearance alone) worried that the battery being inserted in the underneath of the frame would make it prone to flying out with hard riding.

That was my exact experience with a Gen 4. I’m on a Gen 5 now and I haven’t had any issues at all so far. I’ve only got about 300 miles on it (dealing with health stuff), but they’ve been intentionally hard miles to see if there would be an issue.

The battery locking system is much better now. You use a hex wrench to lock it in from the side (where the key lock is on a Gen 4). There’s also an extra tensioning screw on the bottom that you tighten after the battery is locked in. I’ve had zero disconnects and no noise that I’ve noticed. Ridden in the rain/mud and have done a few races. All good.

I transport mine with a truck tailgate pad and it’s been fine.

Thanks, mate. That's great to hear. Now the obstacle to overcome is finding one in stock in my country.
