The base model (Rail+ 5) is actually surprisingly well specced, I'd almost go for that one ahead of the 8 or 9.7 and just swap out a couple of things. But it comes with a 2A charger, for an 800Wh battery, not a deal breaker but that thing must take half a day to charge up!

We bought Rail 5's and specced them up. Came with 2A (Compact) chargers but bought 4A (Standard) chargers when they came 'on offer'. Charging times:

Seems like they ditched the 1.8" lower headtube and knockblock for adjustable headset cups.

I am trying to figure out why the 9.8XT has RockShox, and the 9.8GX has Fox suspension?

The geo is kinda weird, huge jumper from M to L, steep enough head angle... But its not clear exactly what adjustments are available from the articles I saw, seems a flip chip + headset cups?

XT drivetrain is much cheaper than GX T-Type so they offset the price increase with cheaper suspensions on the GX build, the Fox 38 doesn't even have the Grip X2 damper, but the Grip X damper.

T-Type is nice, but not a necessity...I think the XT build is the smart choice here with the updated Super Deluxe Ultimate shock with hydraulic bottom out and the also updated Charger 3.1 ZEB Ultimate with buttercups.

Trek ditched some SKU's to cut down costs and some M/L frames were killed in the process.

I also find the geo a litle bit weird, XL is more XXL and the L is XL with some compromises like a shorter seat tube.

I thought the frame looked good and the fact its been bumped up to 160mm in the rear with the possibly to run an 180mm fork, new bosch gen 5 with 800wh battery tick tick... but the geo is missing a size ? it go's from the M with an 150mm reach to a large with an 490mm reach, i'm 5'11 in height my sweet spot is 475mm reach bike. it's missed opportunity by trek

Trek had to remove skus, do what a short guy does when a proper fit is hard to find. Get a medium and add a longer stem or get a large and put a higher rise bar on to get the bars closer to you.

I don't see any mention of the Rail+ in North America. Strange...

The bike was only released on their European websites with a few EU MTB websites sharing news about the new bike.

Still not a single review out and there's no information at all available outside of Europe so there must be some kind of embargo still in place.

Very strange product launch.
