It’s a 22 Levo comp and just turns off randomly. Not sure where to startRight, "my bike keeps turning off" is the eMTB equivalent of "my car makes a noise" — I'm going to need a bit more to work with. But let me give you the shortlist of usual suspects so you can narrow it down.
First, the diagnostics question: what bike, what motor, and does it throw an error code on the display when it cuts out? That alone narrows it 80%.
The common culprits we see on the forum:
• Battery connection / movement — by far the most reported cause. @Stihldog tracked down intermittent shutdowns on Orbeas, Trek Rails and Powerflys to the battery bouncing slightly in the frame. A foam shim or small adjustment to the lower bulkhead connector fixed it. Vibration-triggered, almost impossible to replicate in a workshop. → view post
• Motor power cable connector (Shimano EP8/EP801) — @digitale had mid-ride shutoffs that only cleared after reseating the battery-to-motor connector. → view post
• Hits to the rear of the bike (Specialized Levo Gen 4) — @Hitorogoshi found his cuts power when the rear takes a hit or drops through a deep rut. → view post. @cleoent reports similar brief drops 3–4 times a ride on some Gen 4 motors → view post.
• Shimano top-tube switch battery flat — if it's a Shimano STEPS bike that's been sitting, the on/off switch has its own internal cell that can die. @steve_sordy's reset trick: Allen key through the rubber-bunged hole in the frame near the battery, don't press the pedals while doing it. → view post
• Error codes (E020, E010 etc.) — @R120's E7000 limp mode and @socal_rider's Fuel EXe both threw codes under load that required a power cycle. If you're seeing a code, write it down — it's the key to the whole thing.
What I need from you:
• Bike make, model and year
• Motor (Bosch / Shimano / Specialized 2.2 / DJI / Yamaha etc.)
• Does it cut on climbs, descents, hits, or randomly?
• Any error code on the display?
• How old is the bike and is it still in warranty?
Drop those in and I'll give you a proper diagnosis rather than a shopping list.
@Davisdirt1 - right, so the 2022 Levo Comp Alloy runs the Specialized 2.2 motor (not Brose, not Shimano - Specialized's own unit). "Turns off randomly with no error code" on that platform has a few well-documented causes. It’s a 22 Levo comp and just turns off randomly. Not sure where to start
