People are giving you a lot of data but it will not be much use. You also need to know rider weight, elevation change vs distance and tyres. These items make a huge difference to range. My wife can get 30% farther than me on the same ride profile due to her lower body weight and less draggy...
You can go to any shimano agent and they will process warranty claim for you on the motor. They usually charge for the labor as you did not get the bike from them. I have done this 3 times , 1 x Canyon , 1x YT and once on a separate motor.
Pinion can run with Chain OR belt, the Bulls bike with the motor has a chain drive so Pinion have already addressed the issue from their point of view. It is the bike makers who use the MGU that make the choice.
The tensioner can be moved. On the gearbox only bikes (Zerode etc) with a belt the tensioner is tucked well away. The MGU one looks like it is part of the motor unit which may suit some bike builders but no reason it cannot be moved.
Interesting video. Looking at the internals it looks a lot better than the Shimano motor. Although it has quite a few parts it looks very serviceable for a competent engineer. The Shimano is a nightmare to open up as all the electronics are so delicate and have to be removed to get the main...
My point was not that you wanted a lighter bike. It was that the motor output makes little difference to the weight, it is the use of a smaller battery that is the bigger saving. In the case of the Pinion I doubt if they could save much motor weight by dropping the output as the main mass is...
Why would you want a mid power version? All you need is the smaller battery and don't use the motor in full mode to get the same weight as the majority saving is in the battery.
The disadvantages of planetary gears are their complex construction and higher power loss compared to spur gears. As the power is transmitted through at least two meshed teeth, the power dissipation is double that of a simple spur gear.
CVT also has a higher complexity and power drain compared...
Size issue? Triumph also moved away from pre-unit for a reason :-) If the internal design means that motor and/or gear parts can be replaced and parts available the splitting them physically is not required.
