    Whyte Karve Evo

Dropped in on a demo day at the weekend. Interesting that the Zendit lowest spec is basically the same kit as the RSX Karves (although the Zendit only comes with the slow charger at that level).

I don’t consider it trolling. There seem to be a lot of people out there who really are that thick or sociopathic. They might genuinely have never thought about it or seen what’s possible in civilized cities. The internet is full of Americans visiting Europe for the first time and having their...

If you’re mountain biking in a private bike park or on completely private land fill your boots. But most Mtb in Europe is on public land where people have a right to walk as well and trails are effectively all bi-directional and shared use. There’s a logic and justification for limits here in...

We sort of already have that. The European e bike limit was set at the sort of speed people ride at. I don’t know what your fitness level is like but I’ve a 300w ftp and I’d struggle to keep at 20mph on the flat for any real length of time.

you would, but Helsinki has shown you can achieve zero road deaths without doing that with sensible policies and infrastructure while still having decent mobility...

because 20mph is the point where you shift from most pedestrians surviving to most ending up dead. But in areas where pedestrians should absolutely have priority and don’t have their own safe space that’s a good idea. It’s the supposed limit in a lot of car parks. This stuff isn’t controversial...

    Whyte Karve Evo

I'm actually thinking the fact that it's the same frame on both is a bonus (rather than a missed weight saving for the 160). Buy an end of line 180 fork and shock and you can convert your trail bike to an uplift bike in half an hour for less than £1000 (quick search found a Zeb Ultimate 3.1...

No, loads in the UK press about illegally modified ebikes (significant numbers, mostly fast food delivery riders), illegally used e-motorbikes (Suron etc, often used for street/phone robbery). Less about scooters because in the UK they don't seem to have had a significant volume of sales. (the...

I met someone yesterday who’d speced a Wild in Tanzanite blue because they really liked that (stock) colour in the rise. His was so dark it looked black on most light. Nothing like the colour of my Rise side by side.

    Whyte Karve Evo

Edited. I’d got the weights wrong in writing it. At most the 160 is 1kg lighter than the 180. The Karve is going to be 23kg. You could cut another c1kg fitting more expensive wheels and changing brakes, rear tyre and some finishing kit without sacrificing performance and get it close to 22kg.

    Whyte Karve Evo

Tyre casing depends on trails and rider weight and the tyre pressures you run more than bike weight surely? You're not going downhill faster on an e bike, the change in system weight for me going from an unpowered bike to the Karve might be about 5kg but that's from 95-100kg, far less than the...

    Whyte Karve Evo

When I scanned the build kits they looked identical - same drivetrain, wheels, tyres, dropper, finishing kit. And Whyte have said it is exactly the same frame so as far as I can see the ONLY weight differences are fork/shock/carbon rear triangle. That's 1kg give or take. And the 160 bike has...

I mean, it already *is* legally in Europe. e-bikes (which includes e-bikes used on trails on anything except completely private land) are limited to 25km/h and must be pedal assist. If it's faster than that, or has a throttle, then it's a motorbike (and needs tax/insurance/number plates) in...

    Whyte Karve Evo

Do you think it's actually the same frame with only the linkage changing? So no weight saving between the two bikes there (only the carbon rear on the top end Karve)

    Whyte Karve Evo

I’m surprised they’ve not stated weights for these - they must surely have built up a few frames, how difficult is it to put one on a scale? c300g less for each of the fork and shock. A lighter mainframe and the carbon rear end. The rest of the build looks the same so It’s going to be in Rob’s...

Different people have different needs. If you live in a flat or your bike is stored in an outbuilding then removable batteries might be essential. For other people they're no benefit and add weight and points of failure. The number of times I actually used an RE when I had one was tiny. It...

Thanks for this. I'm on a ep801 Rise carbon. Because I need XL frames I don't get to try that many other peoples bikes properly but my take on this is 'natural feeling' is a factor of - needing a highish cadence to deliver more power (which requires you to work the gears a bit) - not huge...
