Firstly, can you fit the 600wh battery for shorter rides?

I appreciate it's a very different beast to my current bike.

For 6k gbp I can get top spec which for a big travel, cat 5 bike seems a great deal. Especially as you can swap batteries over quickly

No, you can’t swap the batteries I believe. The 600wh battery is shorter in length than the 800, therefore it wouldn’t sit on the terminal and catch.

I should also say that this is my 3rd emtb that I've owned.
Two things I don't like and I have forwarded this back to Cube in Germany....1 the headset cable routing and 2 the motor 'Bash Guard' is very poorly designed, Out on the second ride, I ripped the thing off! crossing a fallen tree. There's only one front fixing holding it on (see attached pictures) the worst design ever.
I came up with my own solution and fix ....again have a look at the pictures. Basically I bought a 'ProGuard' £60 and modified the original bash-guard so that it would have a proper rear fixing point to the frame, this involved gluing in a fixing plate to the rectangular hole on the back of the frame (best to drop out the motor)
This has worked out to be a great fix
