Its a pretty pointless argument, as you can't really buy an 85nm motor bike brand new anymore lol
Heh kind of true. All these motors weigh roughly similar, and seem capable of 85ish torque to 150ish just based on software tuning. I wonder if they could even be made much lighter if they actually topped out at 85nm. There'd probably be a market for that, if they could make a bike with 60% the torque/power and 60% the weight.

I wonder if they could even be made much lighter if they actually topped out at 85nm. There'd probably be a market for that, if they could make a bike with 60% the torque/power and 60% the weight.
To me weight is more important than power.

I posted that as a bit of a joke. 😁

When you actually watch the video what he's getting at is if you use all the bike's power you don't get to go very far, so it needs to be curtailed if you want to ride for more than an hour. Him and his mate wanted to do a three hour ride so the big power modes were a no go.
 
Plummet's kid has an Avinox so he has ridden them and thinks highly of the motor system as we've discussed it by PM.
I definitely get the argument that it's better to have the power, if there's no downside, then to not have it.
However, there are a couple of downsides. Battery usage, drivetrain wear & legality being the big ones.
If I was purchasing a new Wild right now, I'd probably buy the Avinox version. But nothing to do with the power.

I have dialled my Auto mode right back so that it is merely helping out like a stronger version of Eco. I'm assuming on an Avinox screen that the thin sweeping bar is my input and the thicker one underneath is the bike's output/assistance level? My two bars go up and down in unison in both Eco and Auto now. Auto used to instantly max out its bar and make me feel puny when I saw mine not keeping up!

Trail (steep) and Turbo (steeper) are my two nutter modes reserved for blasting uphill. I've also dialled Trail back so it feels different from Turbo. I found that most of the Avinox modes were set to show off the motor's power straight out of the box and all felt rather similar, bar Eco.

On most of my ride yesterday I had a killer headwind and (my) Auto mode was all I needed just to help it not feel like a horrible slog.

What I'll probably do at some point is create a custom mode and copy my new Auto settings into it, then reset the Auto back to factory. Now I have tweaked it over the last few rides and perfected it for my riding it's not really a true Auto mode anymore, more Eco+...

You can create a page that shows how many watts you push, how many the motor in outputting and your cadence plus the gear your are and the %of battery. I find it quite useful to see how much you are consuming in the various modes. The page that I use is the small top and bottom rectangles and 3 main rectangles. It is so cool that you can create your own pages, what is a bit counter intuitive that not all type of layout offer the same metrics so you need to play around a bit.

I agree Auto, Trail and Turbo in default do not show much difference.
I have detuned Auto to 4-9 assistance, 95nm and 750w (kind of my old bike mode), Trail just detuned the assistance 7-11, Turbo is at default and created a OverT that is Turbo with max out assistance and the longest overrun. In this way I can control how much overrun I want by switching between the two "Turbos".
Some people like to use Auto and Trail and max them out so you never change mode as it adaptive, you will not end up burning much more. But I like to be the one deciding how much power I have depending on the situation as it may be flat but with big obstacle so I want Turbo with Overrun, then quite steep but super easy I don't need all the power and I'm happy to put more effort in it.

Auto and Trail have assistance range and the logic to vary the assistance by using the sensors (you can clearly see in Trail on flat vs on steep) but afaik you cannot copy Auto or Trail and on custom modes you cannot set the assistance range.
So you cannot have two Autos or Trails with different settings. I need to verify this but I'm quite positive.

I just rode my Gen 5 Bosch with the 120 NM update. I've been off the bike for 2 months due to a damaged knee and am now 8 days out of knee surgery so have not messed with the bike much at all and definitely not with the update.
Anyways, it's so very powerful. It will effortlessly go up steep inclines in like 5th gear.
And what's crazy to me is that it's basically weak compared to the M2s.
I understand that we all live in different places and the world is much larger than a little canyon trail behind my home. But gosh dang that's a lot of power to be called a 'bike'.
I might swap my entire drivetrain over to the SRAM DH Transmission. The issue is that if I needed a slower battery conserving ride, I would not have the gears to do so.
 
I am not an fan of this DJI/Avinox hype...I see some guys here they are way out of shape, no helmet nothing, but for them it's about power and nothing else, experience on the trails zero! I just wait for it that one of these subjects crashes into some other biker...damn!!!
Instead I do think that Mahle offers a real alternative with the M40, I test one Bike with it and it is brilliant how natural the power delivery is.
Just waiting for some nice Bikes with this Motor. The best part...it's from Europe ☺️

The bike industry is all about making you want to buy a new bike every few years by incrementally changing things.

Years ago mountain bikes had front derailleurs. Then 1x10 came about. Then 1x11. Then 1x12. 26” wheels, then 29” wheels. Then 27.5” wheels. Now 32” wheels. Wider tires. More slack. More slack. More slack. More slack.

My point is the industry loves having “the next big thing” to sell their bikes. Avinox started the hype train with big torque numbers. Then bigger torque numbers. The M3 will have 175nm and the M4 will have 200nm.
They’ll keep it going because it sells bikes.

Quite honestly, I think you’re right tho… traveling uphill at 1500w max output is only marginally faster than traveling uphill at 1000w. But it’ll sell new bikes.

There are a lot of IAFH members (International Avinox Forum Hammers) now who see every post that isn’t super positive about Avinox or de-restriction as a nail to be hit.

De-restriction has crept out of the de-restriction section now as well, three posts just this morning mentioning they’ve geo-unlocked their bike, praising the ease with which assist speed can be raised and the other actually saying how you do it.

Even the people who get very exercised and insulting about not mentioning it outside of the de-restriction section aren’t kicking off, probably because it’s an ‘IAFH’ member…

The Avinox is a great motor system for sure, I’ve never said otherwise, and it’s brought about change in the EMTB industry, and forums for that matter.

Some of it good, some not so much.
