Tried searching this thread, but didnt see any posts about this question. I need to run a new dropper cable and cable housing. Old one is gone since I have been running a wireless Reverb AXS dropper, but it died and now i need to put the original cable dropper back on the bike. Not looking forward to routing the cable housing. Anyone know if the motor needs to be removed to route a new cable dropper housing?

You will need to remove the motor cover and remove the motor. Take pictures to remember how the wires are running as there is little space in there

Technically you can do it without removing the motor - but it will make your life a lot easier doing so if you don't still have an outer cable tucked in there somewhere. You can leave 2 motor bolts connected and swing the motor down. This will make it easier to feed some foam sleeve onto the outer cable as well so it doesn't rattle beside the battery. The main pinch point (literally) is the headset assuming you have the factory configuration so make sure you have the fork out or at very minimum the headset super super loose to enable you to route the cable through the bearing and spacers. My tip is to use a normal size out cable not the skinny original stuff (if you haven't worked that out already) and for any future work (replacing a gear or dropper cable housing with a new one) use one of THESE to pull the new housing through.

(Ex Giant mechanic for reference, but maybe I have done it a few more times than most - shout if you need some photos and I'll see what I can dig up to try and make it a bit clearer)

Thanks all for the replies to my question. I did what LP88 said and just removed the front 2 motor bolts and it let the motor swing down with plenty of room for me to route the new dropper cable housing. Ended up being much easier than I expected.

See, it's not that scary! (Don't ask me how many times I've dropped the motor on my own bike let alone others for maintenance or repairs as I can't remember).

Cheers
Leon
