Looking for guidance: reign e+ 1 or spesh levo

So I’ve been researching my first ebike. I have back issues so want a high stack. Currently ride trek slash 8 2021 size large. Riding blue trails at bike park. Hoping to try some blacks but will probably ride around features.

Looking at ( prices in my currency)

Pivot shuttle am base spec ride Slx. 17k
Specialized turbo levo ohlins ltd 15.5k
Giant reign e+1. 10.5k

So pretty huge price differences. Loved the pivot in terms of shape. Specialized levo is very nice but feel expensive compared to comp alloy models which could be upgraded ( but they have no stock ). Reign is on Easter special .

Reign is a touch longer in reach, and whist on paper says it’s higher stack it doesn’t feel it. The steerer length seems to be shorter with only 20mm under the headset. The others are at least 30mm.

Bosch vs brose vs syncdrive. I liked the brose. I hear lots of issues. Brose had more power but I guess they are somewhat comparable.

Spec wise pivot is carbon frame fox 36, float x , Slx gear . 160/150 625w

Spesh alloy ohlins 38 ohlins ttxcoil and trp dmr evo brakes. Gx axs transmission drive train. 160/150 700w

Reign is alloy ,fox 38 factory, fox x2 factory, full xt . 170/160 800w

I enjoy flow, blue jump lines ( small jumps currently ). Technical is less interesting. I probably fully power it up the hill :)

Looking for a bike that is good for intermediate riders but also can be some fun on the blue trails. Don’t want a huge battleship like the norco vlt sight I rode. The mullet on the giant seems to make it more nimble eve though it’s more enduro. Like I said loved the pivot but realistically it’s out of my price and lower spec. I’ve only ridden a levo carbon for a demo so no idea what the ohlins would be like or the gx axs. The giant I need to see how to get te stack up a little, high rise bars might help.

Just keen on peoples thoughts about what direction they might suggest.

Not tried the others. But I’ve got a Reign and it’s the comfiest bike I’ve had. Nearly sixty now and had back issues in the past but not had any problems with the Reign at all. Really comfy pootling along but also a beast in the rough.
only bike I’ve had in 25 years that didn’t need a single thing changing or upgrading from new. Even the saddles comfy.

Hi,

I have a reign and it is a good bike, main reason I got it, is like you can see the cost and value in general are real good.

That said, I don't put much stock into weight, but the pivot and levo happen to be among the lightest (22-24kg depending on build) whereas the reign is around 3kg heavier (25-27kg), so not insignificant. Much shorter stays, so expect a different ride.

Another very important thing to know: my 800Wh giant battery gets the same range as the Levo and Bosch motors with 700Wh and 725Wh respectively. And to really put the rub in, this is with less power and more overheating. The main positive is the Yamaha/giant is considered more reliable.

Finally the Giant is a bit less refined, there are constant creaks etc that I believe spesh and pivot would not have. I don't want to sound overly negative, I like the bike and it is worth the money, but there is a reason it is cheaper than some of the competition.

Personally I was considering upgrading to the Pivot but the non removable battery is a deal breaker as I frequently do double battery rides on Sunday mornings. I will most likely go for a Bosch equiped bike next.

Cheers. I guess my question is if 5k is worth the extra for the pivot and levo. Huge difference in cost. Pivot have no intention on dropping price either :(.

The Levo would probably ride the best considering the components, the question is how near and how big is the shop selling it, as you would have to go in expecting to need a motor replacement every year... If that sounds acceptable to you and you believe the shop can replace the motor in a week or so then the price is worth it.

I have a ‘22 Regin E+2. It has been an amazing bike. I ride everything from black diamond downhill trails to mellow cross country trails. I have the Zeb fork and fox x2 shock. Mine is extremely quiet while riding. No creaks or groans. The motor is plenty powerful and decently quiet under full power.

My only complaint is the sram code brakes. They just don’t bite strong enough for my liking. The only future changes I want to do is change the brakes and maybe try out a coil rear shock.

I haven’t ridden a pivot but I’m sure they are great. I rode multiple Levo’s and wasn’t super impressed. Plus I have a couple friends who have had to replace the Brose motor on theirs.

An quick fix for the brakes is upgrading to HS2 rotors in 220mm front and rear, huge difference in brake power and feel. I went a step further and fitted some maguras, mt5's but dont find the performance much better than the codes with massive rotors.

Yup I’m not a fan of the code r even with h2 rotors . Switched on my other bike to Slx. The e1 has xt. Should be ok .

Did you have to buy adapter brackets to fit the larger rotors?
