    🔋 Semi-Solid-State batteries revolution!

I quoted myself, three months ago. A valuable skill is to be able to separate the truth from fiction. I saw a number of people saying it's impossible, because we don't have enough facts. I disagreed with that, saying we knew all we needed to know to see thorough this sham. When you stack enough...

Electric mini pumps, do you use them?

Voltage is always a range of voltages, look at 12V (nominal) systems. The actual fully charged/charging voltage is 14.5-14.8 volts and 12V appliances are designed to accommodate this range of voltages. Power conversion is best when it's unnecessary and things like tire pumps, lights and consumer...

Electric mini pumps, do you use them?

Everything isn't about the weight. It's kind of dumb for everything to have it's own separate battery when the bike is packing a massive power supply. Maintaining the charge of one power supply is easier than separately charging lights, trip computer/GPS. tire pumps, etc. it would cost next to...

Electric mini pumps, do you use them?

36V is the nominal voltage, not the peak. I don't know what you would call a port designed for 48 V max, maybe it would be a 42V port.

Electric mini pumps, do you use them?

Maybe you missed the point. Just because something is not already available off the shelf, doesn't mean it never will be. My main point was that e-MTB manufacturers should give us 48V power ports (the native voltage of most EMTB's) sufficient for tiny tire pumps, headlights, etc. The accessory...

Electric mini pumps, do you use them?

It would only need to be 2 feet long. And the beauty of 48 volts is the wires could be super thin and flexible to carry the low amperage of a compact bicycle tire pump. At 48V a wire smaller than the thinnest shoelace would suffice, it could wrap around a small spool area on the outside body of...

Electric mini pumps, do you use them?

Electric mini-pumps make a lot of sense except for one thing: they all have a battery built into them which makes them larger, heavier, and more costly than they need to be. If e-bike manufacturers would put 48V power ports on their batteries then accessories makers could design pumps and other...

Puzzled by Service from my LBS

Assuming you used a tool that was not bent, there are two possibilities: 1) You never measured a chain that had enough wear to register (highly unlikely, I think). 2) You used the tool incorrectly (most probable explanation).

True. There is probably an exception to just about any rule you can think of.

Bosch Gen 5 Rumour - More Power updates coming!

Innovation and constant improvement is good. Not supporting your previous models is bad. The eBike manufacturers could take a lesson from Tesla, innovate constantly and update new models with better, more reliable technology, but don't leave owners of earlier models in the lurch, send them free...

I guess that's better for the occupants, but worse for anyone in the vicinity!

    Maintenance stand for emtb

Do you have the PT 10.3 Stand? I don't see how the clamp could slide unless it wasn't tightened much because the blue paint on mine has a nice texture that the plastic clamp grips to. I like my PT 10.3 stand, very sturdy and stable. Good value too.

E‑bike charging while travelling: ever been refused or asked to pay?

I saw a homeless man arrested for theft of electricity for plugging his cell phone into an outlet on the side wall of a storefront. He was acquitted because there was no sign indicating it wasn't for public use.

What's particularly sinister about these fake, piped-in motor noises on many new EVs is there is no way to turn them off permanently! Some EVs, like the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Blazer EV originally came with a method to disable the fake noises but a software update removed that ability leaving...

    Been robbed

Once I got a Performance Tesla, I realized that "Muscle car" didn't mean what I thought it meant. Now when I hear the rumble of a V8 I can't help but associate it with slow and awkward. Old fashioned and outdated. And that's coming from someone who previously liked performance street bikes, in...
