"no common sense"....really...wow! some folks are absolutely insulting / brutal on this channel...Sad to see that we get this type of response. Although, I will accept the "very little mechanical experience" ...I cannot deny that part. That's why I rely on good people (Eric E) that have the experience I lack...In corporation / life that's what you do...you surround yourself with folks that have experience / strengths where you personally don't ...Anyways...thanks to all the others for bringing their positive attitudes and proposed solutions.I would change this to ‘shouldn’t buy a bike online if you have no mechanical competence or common sense’
I think the other blogger said it right... first shop who did the blead could have made this worse...I also have owned my PL Carbon Pro for about 6 months. I have over 7,000 miles on my bike and zero issues with leaks on my Magura brakes. I’ve had other issues with the MT7 but nothing that would be considered a defect or warranty. In your case this is something better off dealing with Magura directly because under normal riding conditions seals shouldn’t start leaking like that.
I think you hit it on the head and are right... first shop who did the blead probably didn't know what they were doing and made it worse...Likewise MT4/5 myself never seen anything that concerned me with Magura until recently putting a pair of MT7 on my eeb, there are a few reports of people experiencing the hose crimp to the banjo leaking including myself (remedied with a banjo kit, Magura themselves sell these now BTW since latest Gustav at least) awkwardly such a small amount only identified after a few rides - bike & MT7 new lucky to notice on a dusty ride.
Never had a piston seal issue in five years including running Shigura and sintered aftermarket pads. The lever syringe used should be the one with the vent hole, if the last person to bleed wanted to massage a 4pot in a haste then without a bleed block in its possible the piston broke from its seal and got damaged pushed back in with grit…
So, I did ride it pretty much within 1 week of getting it. I think it's possibly the shop that worked on it first time (after the brake fail) exacerbated the situation by doing the blead on the back the wrong way (?), but I can't prove it. Now mind you the brakes had already failed...so bottom line I really don't know ...I just need to repair those...I'm wondering if it sat somewhere for months before you got it. MT's can get sticky pistons from sitting for extended periods. Anyway, I'm sure Magura will take good care of you. I'm certain of it.
Ahhhh amflow is what happens when you buy chineseium!I understand, but Amflow's unwillingness to help is where the customer service falls apart...there is NO customer service and no help from them...just saying the customer is responsible for dealing with it...that's where they FAIL as a company.
Anyways, I have gotten the manufacturing date / sell date / sales purchase number and will now embark on the process of running after Magura... I will post any new developments / resolution (hopefully) when i have it.
They confirmed it was mineral oil...but not the "blue" stuffIs there any risk someone has put DoT fluid in those brakes? Magura have their own mineral oil that is distinctly blue and the leaked fluid doesn't look blue (though it could still be mineral oil)
Indeed I suspect you maybe onto something there, dot fluid will ruin the seals fairly quickly too. Difficult to tell from the tiny bit in the image but to the eye the blue tinge is generally visible even with a tiny film, the op can probably see one way or other, or there's always the dot fluid taste... That being said, I've been running magura MTs in various guises across multiple bikes since they came out. I've had a few issues but if I hadn't had in that time frame would be more of a surprise.
I've had two leaks at the lever, no obvious cause, warrantied by magura (UK) without a blink.
Two leaks at the caliper, both absolutely my fault, one I'd been on a euro hire bike for about two weeks, got home went to bleed the brakes I knew were dodgy before I'd gone, and promptly connected to the front lever and the rear caliper. The seals went with a pop. Magura warrantied that too, even with a mea culpa.
The other leak I've had at the caliper was similar to the OP. Traced to worn pads and rotor, the piston was over extending under braking then didn't retract and leaked/borked the seals. Was an easy home fix but looked exactly like the OPs fault.

If you're in the US and bought a direct-to-consumer (online) bike, you still have solid repair options. Most local bike shops will work on almost anything—except cheap department store bikes—even if they don't sell your specific brand. I’m not saying what Amflow is doing is right. They would be much better off helping owners to build a good customer service base. Their new M2 bike is using Magura, so you would think Amflow would have some pull with them to get the situation rectified.
I have bled my brakes and the original fluid was Magura (blue) royal blood.
