Just saw this Merida E160 675 for AUD$4999. That's €3000. US$3500. £2600. And it's available in all sizes with plenty of stock. And it's a quality Enduro build, with 170/160 suspension travel. It's 43% off it's retail price.

I'm guessing this is the Avinox effect.

Take a look at the spec. Great spec, with top of the range Shimano EP801 motor, with the brand new 712wh Shimano Battery. Amazing value.

I rang a mate who has been holding out to get an EMTB, to let him know about this Merida. And he just said that after riding my Amflow, he wants an Amflow, and is saving up the extra $2K for the PR. Plus he's waiting for the initial long wait period to be over. I told him it may never be over. Demand is crazy.

But anyone wanting a great, well spec'd 170/160 Enduro, that you don't have to wait for. This Merida is second to none. Only downside for me is the weight. 26kgs. That's like 3kgs heavier than the 180/180 Teewing Flux. Would be a deal breaker for me these days. But I did have one that weight before.
 
Yep. Technology is a moving fast industry. Some shops are doing it hard with stock they can't sell. I was talking to a shop owner the other day and he said sl and mid power bikes just arent selling. He had something discounted from $20k down to $12k and its still gathering dust.

The down side is that out current bikes resale prices are also plummeting aswell. Non DJI bikes are like used undies. No body wants them.

I wonder if it’s the retailers who carry the can here, from overstocks, or distributor discounts on the table, ie sale or return?

E-bikes of all sorts have been overpriced for a long time now, Covid pumped the bubble and it’s taken a long time to deflate.

Whether it’s the ‘Avinox effect’ or not, prices coming down is a good thing, but maybe RRPs should be coming down and not just discounts going up.

To be fair, the number of people in the current cost of living crisis still having the cash to drop even a couple of £k on any e-bike must be in the minority.

I suppose it must be dependent on what bubble you’re in, but I’m not seeing many Avinox bikes on the routes I’m riding, it’s still mainly Levo’s, but there is a big dealer in the locality which might explain that.
 
They are also releasing a new bike next month, the rep was telling me at the Leisure Lakes Demo Day at the weekend.

Light(er) weight long travel bike, Bosch gen 5 motor if I recall correctly.

But regardless, good to see prices falling! Long may it continue.
 
The younger generation will be picking up used EMTB's. The demographic I pass on the trails the most who aren't on a ebike are "kids". My current EMTB will be someone's first ebike, just like it was for me. Back in the day I bought plenty of used bikes because I wanted in but couldn't afford new. Not when you're a student barely working.

It might be our access to Asia, or our trade relationship. Seems weird that the same store in NZ is not offering the same discount. It's not like they are getting rid of old stock here. Every size in both colours is available.

Yeah it's awesome, that I could get a Wild cheap. I put a Ohlins Coil on, GripX2, Fox Transfer, and I've got a top tier bike for Amflow money.

Thanks Amflow marketing. The annoying thing will be if they're passing me on the climbs only to choke up the descents...

Nah, that'll be sweet, if they pass me on the way up it'll be "challenge accepted" for the run down... :)

Its all about stock holding. NZ stock holding for that model must be in a range the doesn't trigger sales.
 
A used bike, sharing the same build level, is worth more than the same vintage same build used e-bike.
I'm shopping right now for a good trail bike, or preferably a used Levo SL for my gf and finding this out. Unfortunately in her size options are very limited, otherwise I'd have a Gen 2 Levo SL for $2k right now. At least 50% more for the same thing in a bike.

My son bought his used Kona Remote for the same as his mate just bought a Fuel EX8. Same age. Similar spec. One e and one not.
Brand new they were thousands apart in price here in NZ.

It's a tank with a Shimano motor but cheap. I wouldn't buy more in 2026.
 
Im partial of course with a moterra carbon 1 but take a look at Cannondale also.
They have great specs like all carbon, dropper, lyrix fork, rockshox deluxe plus rear, xtr derailure, xt brakes etc.
Usually have deep discounts. Bosch 850watt platform and solid parts.
Beat mine to death for 3 years now and other than a new xtr cassette and chain from normal ebike wear, nothing but lube and grease.
Great bikes, and great looking too.
Mine was 2500 us off list even back when I bought it.

The Merida's are brilliant bikes, we still have two, my daughters and my wife's and they have given us an immense amount of pleasure. They are the much older version with the EP800, get used a lot and still going strong. I frequently jump on my wife's bike and it is every bit as much fun as my much more expensive bike with a Bosch Gen 5, I would be more than happy to have it as my only bike and its great on big jumps! :) Clearly the motor isn't the deal breaker for me :)
