Pic of the Day

Glentress yesterday last time was 2014 on a real bike . Changed a lot since then , still a fair chew even on a e bike if using mostly eco.

Kielder today did way more than I should have I was glad to get back to Van. Legs fine but ive been struggling with backside a while now fidgeting a lot on saddle after about 40 minutes .
Both days were brilliant. Scenery was lovely I've not been in Borders a lot but impressive especially Kielder. Not used to this 20c weather though. May have a day walking tomorrow then more biking not sure but thinking Hawes , Wensleydale ???

On Saturday, I raced in my first competition after almost 30 years of being inactive—a 44 km MTB marathon with 3,200 feet of climbing. Calling it tough is an understatement. I pushed like crazy for three-quarters of the race, and then spent the last stretch in survival mode without ever letting up.

The first 13.5 miles were fast, rolling hills with about 1,300 to 1,600 feet of climbing. Then, right after the first aid station, we hit one of the two main 800-foot climbs. Luckily, there was this drummer there pumping everyone up—absolute legend!!!

For my first race, my only goal was to finish without blowing up. Instead, to my absolute surprise... I took third place in the e-bike category!!!

Really glad you enjoyed both days Col ..especially my home turf at Kielder ..more often than not its by-passed by riders coming up from the South as they make their way to Glentress ..great to get a glowing reference 😁👍🏻

Yes two full on days Neil I thought. You could spend a week at Kielder easily. And the campsite is special I think. Osprey is a decent run on its own but after doing Deadwater It felt like the longest 12 miles ? I ever did.
PS you never mentioned the Midgies eaten alive tonight.

I find the only solution is high strength DEET like Jungle formula, although they only sell weaker versions of it now.
I use one of these when I have been bitten, and it usually works well to destroy the poison and stop the itching;

The BUY NOW link on their website takes you to the German Amazon where it is out of stock, but it is listed as available on the UK Amazon.
Expensive but long-lasting and worth it if it stops the itching!

Avon Skin So Soft Dry Original Oil Spray works for us. And the SAS allegedly.
Avon Skin So Soft changed its formula quite some time ago ..and while its true the Army used to use it the only thing it does these days is make you smell nice ..read these comments from 2013 .

Also having worked for a brief time for the UK supplier of Ballistol in a sales capacity ..their Stichfrei ( sting free) repellent is the best Ive used ( and I have in the past used Avon ) ..price & availability being the downside ( German company ) ..they do a version for children & animals ..it works on Mosquitos & just as importantly ticks ..
Its well worth tracking down if you can get it ..
The test is from Germany ..but you get the idea ..the tick doesnt like it !
If you cant get your hands on that buy Smidge as the next best thing

Deet no Deet tried them all bought a natural one last year £16 in Knoydart as it was really bad total waste of money . I still have roll on deet I got when working Africa just makes you smell horrible and nips your eyes. Once in a moment of madness I put whisky on my face. I get bitten by every insect that bites so never cycle in shorts they still get in . Some folk the midgies just don't bite or they dont react to the bites they still use repellant and think it works. Face Net is as good as anything but you crash a lot more.

Met a guy last week with a boxer puppy. He was waiting for the backpack and dog goggles so he can take it on motor bike. I takes all kinds eh.

I heard about a guy, friend of friends, that regularly bring his cat on a motorbike, with helmet and glasses too. And apparently the cat appreciates that, and jump into the bag on top of the fuel tank by himself.

Many apologies for my sins oh holy master of all knowledge. Having another bad hair day today luv?

Agree, Smidge is probably the next best thing. No way I'm putting anything containing Deet on my skin.

Didn't read your own link or what the Avon website says about "Original", did you?

Today's experiences consisted of meeting two horses that together have a peak power of 1510W and that's impressive since it beats Avinox, some trees and hard packed soil with roots, and the highlight of the day was a lying women as a work of art shaped in an unknown material.
The ride was enjoyed with Happy Mondays on full blast in my ear pods.
