Specialized leading the pack...

Drop The Price Contest

Trek?

Ebike prices are off by a lot!
There's a market, but it's so little...
Imagine a cut by 30%, a 7k ebike would cost ~5K still...

I know everyone knows a friend and all their friends buy ebikes, but, I'm not seeing an exponential number of ebikers.
Almost the same.... with 1... or 2 added every year, and also 1 or 2 leaving - health/injury, switching sports, etc...

But please, prove me wrong, because my Bias says that at +5k for entry level ebikes, NO big sales will be done.

Imagening chineses copying everything (brakes/suspension/drivetrain), and presenting much less expensive bikes?

Happened with KOVE 450 Rally!
For less than 8k bakarus, you get a full "showa copy" suspension, extra fuel tanks, rally tower, and an engine that's pretty capable.
Anything close to this, from KTM, is more close to 35k!

Now imagine an ebike with a powerful motor, with good rider interface, good battery, Fox Podium Copy, Maxima Brakes copy, light and this "high end" ebike costing around 5 to 6k?

That's no imagination it's true and the components ain't copy it's a further development that is better and cheaper.

Does it make sense Europe is not included.

Just buy it from the US and ship it over, at the current US prices you can pay for shipping/customs fees and still come out cheaper than the EU/UK prices.

Very Strange if this ends up being USA only.
It could theoretically mean i could fly from Australia to the USA buy a bike & return it to Australia cheaper than buying one in Australia.
Surely this will become the new world pricing over time.

In Europe Turbo Levos are already at around -20%. Maybe not officially from dealers, but look at shop offers on any major aggregators (Idealo, Geizhals, ...). Considering discounts on some Trek models like Slash+, Levos still have a whileee to go before they hit the price bottom imo.

Specalized had to lower their pricing structure because at the previous lofty pricing they were not going to be moving bikes. Amflow, Advent and others are on the market now with attractive pricing which is good for the consumer.

On Friday I went to a large bike shop on another matter but couldn't help noticing the huge sea of Specialized bikes that looked like they'd been sitting there for 'a while'.

I mean, their main selling point now is really just the brand pedigree and support that goes along with the big dealer network. The bike is objectively much worse on paper in terms of weight, value, and looks with the huge downtube, but for many they feel good about buying a longstanding brand that should be reliable, well supported, and they see all around them. I’m sure it rides great and is an above average bike in terms of feel, but so much with this industry is all at the surface level.

That brand power affords them a certain degree of higher pricing and missteps in design, but obviously the limits are being tested with the current market as competitors are pushing them to do this.

There’s no world where looks are an objective factor. Looks are always subjective.
Yeah I know, almost removed that from the line. It’s objectively larger though, and it’s nearly universal that people want the downtube to be as small as possible, we can leave it at that. Not everyone prefers it but it’s the vast majority.

Yes correct R is down but not Levo 4 comp carbon and LTD. For now the new prices is only in US and Canada.
My guess is no one want to buy the LTD but Levo 4 comp carbon is the one sold most therfore they won't lower the price and S-Works is not selling enough therfore biggest cut.
I have zero inside information, but I was thinking that they likely don’t have a lot of LTD models in stock; and the typical LTD buyer is likely the least sensitive to price.
Operational (inventory/supply) challenges could also be the issue with the Comp Carbon. Their stock might be low on that model so it would be foolish to discount them until there’s adequate supply.

I’m not sure sales performance supports that contention, but I agree forum post performance clearly does.

It must be a weird game to keep things priced at a certain level on the complete bikes and in the aftermarket to avoid awkward pricing situations where someone could build a bike much cheaper than buying a complete one.
Bikes have always been more expensive to build your own. I’ve been buying that way since ordering a 1985 Haro Master from mail order as a kid. That’s why years ago I was surprised to find it’s not that way in the firearms world. It’s significantly less expensive to build my own rifle than buy one complete.

You are literally in a thread discussing Spec dropping prices on Levo 4s. You think that is happening because of stellar sales performance?
I’m not sure theres data showing bikes with thicc downtubes aren’t selling. Share it if you can find it.
What’s fun is we’re going to have a case study soon because the Amflow PR downtube is notably thicker than the Amflow PX. Surely the Amflow PR’s thicc downtube will mean they won’t sell as well as the PX. Right?

Fun fact - PR is the one that got most praise and riders is queuing for it.
Maybe also me but waiting until next year - lots of new technologies is coming by next year.

Need to check if their new Epic has seen a price drop. I could use a light race bike.

I don’t think the downtube matters an insane amount on sales, but amflow priced the PR properly which will make it sell.

Amflow PR Carbon: $4999

Levo 4 comp (cheapest carbon option): $7999

But you can get an aluminum levo similar price now. If you want carbon though that’s a lot of extra $$$ for upgrades. I think it’s a killer deal and I could see past a thicker downtube for that price if I was considering a bike. I am stoked specialized dropped pricing though and everyone should know they do an awesome military discount (including veterans) which could help your decision.

Some bike with thicc downtubes are still selling, the Yeti LTe is just about sold out everywhere. The only ones left in the size/colour I’d want are the £14k T4 models.

How did this end up as a "discussion" about viability of bikes with girthy downtubes 🫠... Derailment achieved!

They went from market leaders to market bleeders, the Gen 4 wasn't a giant leap forward like we expect from specialized, just a shift sideways.
If I could retrofit a M2S into my Gen 3 I would be happy as, will be picking up a Zendit when they release here. Too many amazing bikes out there to consider specialized.
