Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.
Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.
We advise members great caution. EMTB Forums accepts no liability for any content or advice given here.
Does this work on EP8 as well, or just EP801?The new option for EP801/EP6 owners is available - it's possible to change the region (including Cat3 45km/h) via Shimano PCE interface and STUnlocker for Windows.
Yes, for the last several years...Does this work on EP8 as well, or just EP801?
Yes, I have had it running on my ep8 in US mode for a few years now.Yes, for the last several years...
Shimano didn't make an update for old EP8. Cat3 is for EP801/EP6Yes, I have had it running on my ep8 in US mode for a few years now.
I was asking if the new update would unlock cat3 45km/ hr on the ep8.
Thanks, Vadll, I thought that might be the case.Shimano didn't make an update for old EP8. Cat3 is for EP801/EP6

Still free?Since today, my STUnlocker/STRide Apps for Android will be free.
This decision was brought about by Google's position, which stopped paying developers from Russia (yes, I have a Russian passport), which led to the fact that any paid app by a Russian developer cannot be installed. Google tech support did not offer any alternatives. Despite having a residence permit from another country I will not be able to pass Google's requirements for new developers. It's funny that there are no problems with Apple, despite their stricter policy.
I want to say thank you to all those who bought the app, and please don't be offended by the fact that it is now free.
Happy New Year to everyone!
YesHey,
Is the windows version of stunlocker that supports this on the website?
YesIs the license fee for ep6/ep801 the same as the previous license for ep800?
The 6 digit Bluetooth passcode on a Shimano STePS based bike is stored in the Bluetooth device (normally this is the display, but on some configurations, the Bluetooth device can also be located e.g. in the control unit of the left hand side handlebar).Anyone knows how I can change PIN - have totally forgotten.
Cannot connect with Default PIN slider to ON either (000000)
Can you still use the E-Tube app & Fine Tune mode once the change to Cat3 has been done? The new option for EP801/EP6 owners is available - it's possible to change the region (including Cat3 45km/h) via Shimano PCE interface and STUnlocker for Windows.
Yes, sureCan you still use the E-Tube app & Fine Tune mode once the change to Cat3 has been done?
The process is the same for both the app and the Windows version. Connect to your bike and click "Get the Premium."How can I obtain/purchase the premium licence. Is this via the app/windows version?
"Overrun" (which is officially called "assist carry over" from Shimano and was introduced with motor firmware 4.3.0 for the DU-EP801 drive unit) is NOT available in USA class 3 mode (max. 45km/h) due to legal restrictions in the US. However, you can activate and use "assist carry over" in EU and "normal" US mode (max. 32km/h).With stunlocker, if I set an ep801 to usa class 3 (45km/h) can I still have overrun? Or is overrrun only available when set to 32km/h?
