Here in Victoria/Australia a totally locked 250w maximum and 25Kph maximum on my hybrid 27.5 XDS E-Volve Bafang M400 motor/controller sounds like that was conceived by a bunch of lawyers and not cycling engineers who can understand how RIDICULOUS those limitations are, I can feel the nanny speed limiter cutting in BEFORE 25Kph is reached, so what gives Bafang the right to over-the-top deny any adjustment access to MY PURCHASED PROPERTY when all I want to do is up the speed limit by a lousy 5Kph to 30Kph so the bike doesn't feel like a mobility scooter, I'm also responsible enough to slow peddling down to 25Kph or less when encountering bike path foot traffic/other riders, the likes of Bafang have enforced the concept from a eBike being a viable transport alternative into a sluggish embarrassment to ride, with insult to injury bicycle riders forced to overtake me whilst (understandably) shaking their heads for holding them up !

Bafang have to comply with the rules and regulations specific to all the countries they sell their product, the same as all other motor manufacturers do. They're not going to make an exception just for you.

You know when you get to the 25kph, if you use leg power you actually go faster :)
Umm - it's not just a light weight racing bike, with zero assist at 25Kph+ you have the substantial dead weight of a battery and motor to carry as well.

Yes.. that's the trade off of having power below 25kph, you have to actually try :) Embrace it.

It can be easily changed for a few dollars. For example, by purchasing a suitable display.
A risky investment when the controller in the motor is more than likely hard-programmed for the speed limit and will require specific authorised software to directly change - i.e. - Bafang HAVE the software but you have to prove you are a retail supplier with I.D. etc. for access to the software, bottom line is I'm not asking for UNLOCKED speed access, just a limited access of i.e. +5Kph - and Bafang can rightly pass on the warnings to me so they are legally covered.

I can embrace catching the flu as well but I won't necessarily enjoy it !! - and for my 70 y/o age I'm pretty fit but it makes a normally pleasant riding outing unenjoyable when each morning after my legs ask 'what have you done to us' ?!!
Bottom line is, 25Kph capped is simply OTT - 30Kph I can deal with.

The Laws in Australia are very clear. To be legal, they have to be anti-tamper proof. Otherwise Bafang could not legally sell the bike in Australia as a road legal motor.

Just derestrict it like I did with my bafang motor, and stop moaning. It couldn't be easier, but we can't discuss it here. Go to the de-restriction threads.

It's not just me, pal.

Are you suggesting motor manufacturers should increase the speed people's bikes if the end users pinky-promise not to abuse the extra speed or cause a meanace to pedestrians and/or other road users?

I do understand where you're coming from as the 15.5mph speed limit we have in the UK annoys me too, but I also understand why it's in place.

I'm not saying you should or shouldn't look into ways to increase the speed, just that you're barking up the wrong tree if you think it should be Bafang that do it for you as they will (rightly so) always stick to compliance with local regulations.

I'm going to be boring and lock this thread before it continues down the same pointless rabbit hole it always does. I'm sure you all have far more interesting things to discuss.

I think all the answers the OP needs have been covered.
