Hi,

Could somebody with an Amflow PX post some info or photos of the stem bolts that clamp the handlebar please?

Are all of your bolts the same size?
On my bike one of the bolts is only about 3.5mm deep, while the heads of the other bolts are about 4.6mm deep.

The bolt with the smaller head is the one that has been stripped.

MTB Monster have sent another bolt which was received today, but it is another short 3.5mm head.
It is also unusual in that it has a bit of a hole in the centre of the bolt..
I initially thought the mechanic who put my bike together had tried drilling the centre, but it looks like this particular bolt comes like that from the factory.

I've told them of my concerns regarding anything else being missed on the bike, and whenther I would be blamed.
Also, what else has been missed on the bike, is it completely safe?

They have gone to speak to the manager and should be calling me back.

Adam at MTB Monster rang back.
Apparently the 3.5mm heads are supposed to be at the top of the stem.
The larger 4.6mm is supposed to be at the side of the light where it rotates.

MTB Monster think the guy who packed my bike is the one who fouled the bolt.
They say other bikes open the stem to remove the bars for transport, but Amflow remove the whole stem for shipping...

I have been given a statement via email to say they are confident the bike has been assembled to a high standard by one of their senior mechanics and the bike is safe.

I have now been offered two options for the bolt removal..
Arrange a DPD next-day collection for the handlebar and stem, complete the bolt extraction and return the parts via next-day delivery. The total turnaround time for this option would be approximately 3–5 working days.

Althernatively I can take the bike to a local shop and they would reimburse the cost.

I've spoken to a bike shop closest to me, but they have quite a long lead time for the workshop at this time of year, so I may swap the bars and stem for now and send them off.

Blimey, some one has really wragged on that bolt with, possibly a ball-ended Allen key and that might be why it’s been rounded, as not much purchase on the bolt head. But it looks like a torx bolt head??

The other thing that strikes me is that the stem looks unevenly torqued with “no gap” between the stem and face plate, on the stripped bolt but on the other side there is a gap. Some stems are designed for setting up with no gap deliberately, do you know if yours is? That could, possibly, affect the handlebar integrity, but that’s possibly more likely on a carbon bar.

I’ve also never seem a stem faceplate bolted without a washer.

I'd still be interested if every PX bike has the same bolts at the top of the stem.
Can anybody else share a pic to show what was supplied with your bike please? showing the height of the heads.

Thanks @Duraace9sp
Can anyone with a PX post a pictureo of the bolts please?
Surely I'm not the only person on the forum who purchased one?

Sorry for the low resolution as it's zoomed in from a photo I already had. Unfortunately my bike is back in the shop with a speed sensor error so this is all I have.

Well that's just added to the confusion as they look like different bolts again, with angled heads.
Then maybe check with the experts:

I'd probably bin that crap stem anyway. I did on my PL. And the bars. And the grips. And the wheels.

The last post from Amflow support was in March. They're not very active on here anymore.
I was looking for actual user experiences of bikes sold to people

Also seems to show a pair of washers per bolt on the lower bolts, and none on the upper. Might be a poor schematic drawing.

The lower bolts are swapped for much longer ones when the light is fitted.
I had no washers on any of the bolts.

I sent the bars and stem back to MTBMonster yesterday, so they should recieve them today.

I had exactly the same on mine, swapped them for two bolts I already had which matched the correct size and diametre.

Yeah, I'm thinking I might replace the top ones when i get the bars back. They don't look very sturdy.
Just need to find some the same size.
