Anyone tried Magura Gustav Pro?

I bled mine and I think I've got them pretty rub free now, having spent some time lining them up by eye. That said, you get them rub free one minute and they seem to be rubbing again the next, or so I'm finding with the brakes on my other bike!

The bleed process on the Gustavs was easy enough though.

Would you mind asking them when they're planning to release more custom parts for the Gustavs?

Mainly the updated levers to allow better adjustment, but also more piston ring cover things in different colours. They've said both are coming, but not given any time frame.

It depends what your looking for. I think these brakes are perfect for a heavy rider, or heavy bike and rider with large sized hands and want a good brake that your not going to smoke on steep grades. These calipers are Large! If you do the math, these have a slight size increase over Mavens when it comes to piston area and the rotors are freaking thick. If you’re looking for a brake that is a power upgrade from their MT7s, then this is not it. I had my other bike with sram codes and they felt the same power wise which was disappointing. I dropped $500 bucks on these and used them, it’s kinda hard to resell them after that. I felt like I had no choice but put more money in them to get them how I like. If I was going to do it all over again, I’d go with TRPs which have great reviews or Mavens for the power and save some cash. With new levers I’m in at $700, it’s not for everyone but when the smoke settles I feel like I have the Maven power with the Gustav robustness.

It’s going on my second season with the Maven levers/ Gustav pro calipers and love them. I know I complained initially about the hard lever pull to get them to work like I’m used to and lack of lever reach for a medium size hand but the Maven levers definitely solve those concerns with ease. I have the original pads which are not the upgraded versions they offer now and they really stop you in your tracks, when they warm up they stop even better so you have be easy with them and not death grip them or your over the bars! Definitely love them now. I still feel that for the price, these should have stopped this good out of the box without modifications but all and all, it turned out great. I hope this info helps anyone interested.

I recently switched brakepads. Why?
The Gustav have some really good braking power, but for me, the initial bite felt too spongy and I had the feeling it was capable of more than it provided.

First I wanted to get the Magura silver pads, but they weren't available anywhere in my region, so I went for Galfer purple as I already liked them on my Code RSC. After only two rides with the Galfer pads I couldn't be happier. The initial bite is strong and direct, no more spongy feeling anymore, just feels solid, yet very good controllable and a with a harder, more direct lever feel. Also feels like the overall braking power is noticably better.

Galfer Purple, cause I knew them from the RSC and they where perfect with it. Same goes for the Gustav, I really like the braking power and direct modulation and even more, they're quiet.
