Checking the Crestline site, they are indeed stating the 181.2 is coming with the M2S now:

They list the battery options, looks like this means they take the 2 older 600 and 800, and the new 700 if I read this right:

Crestline thought ahead with their removable battery before Avinox new "removable" batteries with the thoughtful design.

Avinox helped the cause making their motors and batteries backwards compatible to a degree, which I actually find to be a very underrated feature!! Upgrade-ability.

Love to be able to upgrade electronics as they make strides vs changing out the frame and entire bike!! Imagine the M3 next year and plopping it right in. 🤞

Bad news for me and fellow RH2 riders - here is a blurb from pinkbike announcement:
RS 181.2 size RH2 frames are compatible with the 600Wh or 800Wh batteries, while Crestline managed to tweak sizes RH3 and RH4 frames so they can accommodate all available batteries, including the new 700Wh.

Bummer! Was on fence to get a RH3, now so glad I did. That new 700Wh seems like a great every day battery!

It's not a software incomptability, the downtube is physically too small to fit the new shape of the 700 battery
This is my thought too, sad is it sounds..

Oddly the 700 is smaller than the 800 that fits unless you take in the "height" per Avinox. Still I would have thought the downtube thickness would not be different on the RH2 vs larger sizes.

Guess it's just a little more height at the wrong spot or something else is in the way (wiring?) but I can't fully visualize in my mind.. does this mean the RH2 has a sleeker sexier down tube than the other sizes or what am I missing?!

And certainly you all saw the 600wh range extender which looks to be all about range for those that want maximum range regardless of heinous appearances and offset handling!!

Bike has shipped and I still have not decided on set up. 160/160 vs 180/180. Anyone have any opinions (asking for trouble here....) on running 160 with a 170 fork? Thanks

Proof of shipping and eta please!'!

I think the geo stays the same with 160 travel so a shorter fork will give the stinkbug effect.

Maybe grab a 180 fork to start, then play with the flip chips and tune to see how you like it. I think with this much power having more travel and capability the 180 is certainly not going to slow you down!

Yeahp, some have ran the 170/160 options and kinda dig it, but to me this sounds like extra cost to reduce performance honestly.

Hold out for a bit too anyone thinking 200mm, as Cascade (Max) has just informed me the links will be sold on the Crestline site "soon"...

That does suck, but realistically, I'd rather have 2 batteries for local runs and epics. I'm getting an 800wh so I don't think I would have ponied up for a 700wh when I want the lightest possible option in the 600wh which also happens to be the cheapest as well. In any case, I'd like to get confirmation from Crestline.

Crazy press dump today, the eeb haters are absoutely going off. Now knowing about it I'd probably grab a 700 as an extra battery, I don't really care about the weight. I did get my shipment email yesterday, I bet they're just prepping boxes at this point. I'm not that far from them so I would expect to get it in 1-2 day transit.

It's as if Atherton twisted Avinox's arm to use a round form factor, which IMO is suboptimal compared to a rectangular form factor, among other things, for this reason. If you want the thinnest on-profile battery, best not to start with round form factor. I guess we will find out eventually why Avinox didn't first come out with a form factor compatible with the prior design, which was already quite slender.

I think it's due to the battery sell size. The new 4680 cells are 46mm diameter. So the new battery is essentially just 1 row of cylindrical cells.

I actually typed out the same thing and then didn’t post it. Haha. Makes perfect sense to me. I bet the 600 will get me through 75% of my rides.

So kinda like an old d-cell flashlight/torch. If the cells are actually that wide, then I'm not sure how Avinox will eventually release updated batteries with the existing profile for backwards compatibility. Fitting them side-by-side would be too wide, so 900HW battery would even need to be longer than the 700.

The new cells that are used in the 700wh battery, are they more power dense than the 880 & 600 wh battery cells? Just breaking it down to the cells themselves.

Anyone know what Crestline means when they say “contact us if you’re going to hot swap the battery” in the new build video?

I think there are some provisions to have your brake/shifter/dropper cables be more secure in the battery tunnel if you plan on swapping your battery more often.
