Atherton S170.E Dyf-E bike coming soon...

They have been really clear that the pre-order batches can't have spec changes, and they aren't on bike2work scheme etc either. After 9th April you can have whatever spec you want but you'll be waiting till July or later for delivery...
I'm first batch and I've already bought new wheels, tyres and handlebars, anything I take off will be for spares or going straight on eBay...
Yeah I get that, but it’s not a spec change, it’s just one less job for them to do when they build it….

Believe it or not you are not their only customer. They probably get these "small requests" from many customers and facilitating all of them would just add a lot of uneeded hassle when they are likley already under pressure to get everything sorted and out the door. Just knock it out yourself, it's not that big a deal. Pretty shitty to use this as a mark against them service wise imo.

I mean yeah it’s not a big deal, but it didn’t seem like a big ask.
Hopefully the ownership experience will be great and they will sort any issues if they arise quickly and without hassle…
Sorry you seem to have taken a personal insult to my observation 🤷

Can't see any personal insult in what @DylanJM said, difficult to avoid concluding that you're a pwincess [sic].

Likewise, I just thought in the FAQ it said extra options will be available after launch. I wasn't sure if that would apply to first batch after launch but before delivery. As you've said it does say pre-orders are fixed.

It was very clear pre-order bikes come exactly as expected. Order after launch, you can change things. So down to the individual on what to do.

As mentioned above, what seems a small thing to an individual build, it the larger picture adds up of everyone starts asking for these things.

I really wanted ohlins build, just accepting the fox build for now. Can change later

The problem with this, is how would they secure the stem/handlebars without a star nut in to ship a bike. Or build the bike fully and then strip it for shipping. Leave it loose and pack the bike up and then you complain it’s damaged on delivery? Not trying to be funny, but even though the star nut is just a small, cheap part, it plays a crucial role in a bike build. I can see why they wouldn’t leave it off if requested

I asked them not to install a star nut as I would just be pulling it out for the one up edc…
Even that is beyond them apparently!
They won’t deviate from their build process, got to be honest, doesn’t make me super psyched that (lack of) level of customer service not exactly a difficult ask!
Knocking a star nut out when you get it is a pretty simple process.

Well, I’m on the wrong side of that, fair enough, it was an unreasonable request that was reasonable to reject..

Moving on…

What’s under the massive cover so we think?
It doesn’t cover the motor, and seems very overkill to just be for the screen…
There can’t be an embargo of the frame tubes…

Well, existing square batteries wouldn't fit. So hiding a new shape battery that will fit is my guess

I have seen this new batt and motor it’s very compact.

I'm hoping if it is a 700wh battery, it can be upgraded in future or an extender comes out from them or a third party
I’ve seen it on another bike. The DT is now very slim makes the out going one look like a “ Donkey “ Bike. Told 700w will have more range than old 800 one.

Asked about a second battery & charger and was told only available from Avinox.
Yeah, thats as it is for current avinox bikes

I hope so. Existing avinox and 800wh is way off the Bosch system equivalent even when tuned the same (off my own personal experience). I would love an extender.

I never had trouble with an 800w batt range wise and did a couple of close to 60 miles days. But obviously not much high power use but still great fun. If what I am told is correct the 700w one will be fine. Collection on Wed, not sure about the Atherton though I am in first 15 bikes though.

Yeah, I'm one of the first ones. I can't wait. Will see on the 9th. So many bikes getting released. Just hoping nothing else turns my head. I heard it's maybe about 23kg, but have seen carbon models with the same motor and 800wh battery about that. So guessing it's going to weigh more (size 9)

I am going to put some CF wheels on mine. I took the view that if anyone can design the best handling riding EMTB it’s these guys, also unless you have the latest DJI power unit and Battery you’re just playing catch up.

I hope so. I had a yeti lte for a week and it's an amazing machine. Good weight, Bosch race motor. Can have 600 or 800wh battery that easily changed and an extender option. It handled better than anything I've ridden . Tight twisty locals or the faster stuff. Atherton/DJI gen 2 has a very high bench mark.

This guy seems to think or know there is an extender coming for the 700Wh Amflow, would be good to have the option 700 for most days handling and then a 250ish extender for those big days.

regarding wheels, the ones that come with it are tough, but extremely heavy. I have reserves on the dh bike and they are bullit proof. May go dtswiss alu for the ebike though. undecided still. Could save 400 grams of rotating mass which is a lot!

I wonder any buyers from US? How’s custom duty play out

I will most likely switch to a set of CF wheels, I was this could save around 1kg across both. As you pointed out that a lot in unsprung mass. Will see how the bike rides first.

Did you order a set of CF wheels? If so may I enquired which ones, also thinking of going for a riser 40mm bar like on the new AMflow it’s very comfortable to ride.
I get a heavy discount on Specialized so went with Roval, if I was paying full price I would have gone with Reserves. Also ordered 50mm riser bars, it's all about the downs for me.

Thanks for the response. Interesting on the CF wheel choice the Techs at AMflow recommended the Reserve ones.

Weights seem to be fairly similar unless I'm missing something

E deemax: 2210 g
Reserve Carbon: 1936g
