It seems like everyone has earbuds in these days so even yelling doesn't get their attention. Howling brake pads seems to be the only thing they notice if that. Maybe I need one of those party-style air horns.

When, and if, you find the solution, post it in these forums. I’d hate to see another sign posted at the trail entrance banning ear-buds.
A bike bell, bear bell, howling brakes, warning shouts, close proximity, a shadow, skidding tires, etc.…those don’t work sometimes.
A train whistle or air horn is my last resort …but those ca be heavy and difficult to mount on a bar.
Seems most new headphones have an ambient sounds setting. If someone is on a trail with noise cancelling headphones, they are taking the liability of a collision if they move off their line.
I love “on your left”, I have a VERY loud voice. They hear me.
Totally agree if you dont say something they give you a badass look and if you honk at them you get another badass look. Can't win. I was on a single track road yesterday and pulled over on verge to let woman in car past . She stopped alongside me and said I would have given way for you , I said I'm in no hurry.

Climbing up a trail becomes an issue for me. I want to maintain the momentum and navigate the obstacles. When I face a hiker (who sees me) I start riding
radically, huff and breathe loudly, pretend I don’t see them, get my mission face on. Usually that works.
But I will slow down for children or off-leash dogs.
I have a “hiker” bell on my bar that sounds the universal “ding-ding”.
.I can’t win either.

The air horn guy was having fun, (and it was funny to watch) but the horn was so loud that he could easily have sounded it sooner and avoided the obvious alarm in some of his targets. I amazed that he only had one target that remonstrated with him. The next remonstrater might stab him!

Agreed. An earlier warning would have been more appropriate but, the video clearly showed how many people are totally unaware of their surroundings. Back in 1999 the Honda motor corporation had a slogan reading "stupid hurts", maybe there needs to be signs posted around the world to remind people of that.

My purchase is an Ergon SM E-Mountain Sport. I’m beginning to find that on longer rides when I’m getting a bit tired I slide back on my saddle and weight my hands making them ache. Did a bit of research and thought it might help. I haven’t fitted it yet but I sure hope it’s worth it. Even with Merlin’s ever competitive pricing.
Some cyclists think they own the road and surrounding areas and this guy was a prime sample.
Absolutely deserved a slapp to the face.
There's perhaps some truth in that, but if you're walking in a cycle lane with headphones in whilst looking at your phone oblivious to the world around you then I don't see an issue with a well timed blast of an air horn.
But the bloke wasn't on the road, was he? He was instead in a CYCLE LANE <-- there's a clue in the use of UPPER CASE.

I totally agree it's lots of pedestrians with headphones and their nose planted on the screen.
Using that type of "bell" is very dangerous cuz ppl can get very scared and jump out in the road in front of a care.

I was remembering that actually about Norway . I use pavement a lot in uk but usually go back on road if people walking on it. EScooters love the pavement as well where I live.it's legal in Norway

Yes agree its ok if no pedestrians but the speed at the young ones tare past is scary. I was in Forres a month ago some one coming up behind me .It was a a 30 year old he was honking at everyone and weaving through a lot of people on pavement . Your first sentence confused me until irie pointed out that "pavement" means footway ("sidewalk" in the US). In the US, the word "pavement" is a reference to material used for roadways and walkways (concrete pavement, asphalt pavement, etc.). You have to love the different terminologies between two countries that have a "common" language.
As far as riding on the sidewalks in the US, it's generally up to the City government if it's legal or not. I live in the Phoenix metropolitan area which is made up of 25 incorporated cities. Of those 25, I only know of six that have laws banning bikes from sidewalks and, it's only in the more congested areas (business districts). The Phoenix metro area is approximately 14,598 square miles and has a population of approximately 5 million (Arizona's entire population is only 7.4 million) while the greater London area is 1,572 square miles with a population of approximately 9 million so, we're a bit less "cramped" than you folks. Our road system is generally a giant grid with arterial roadways having speed limits of up to 45mph (realistic vehicle speeds are closer to 55mph) and 3 lanes in each direction therefore, riding on the road is very risky. Since the local joke is "everything is 10 miles away" and 4 months of the year daytime temperatures can be 100+ degrees, almost nobody walks, except in the downtown commercial areas which leads to relatively empty sidewalks. If I do ride "on the street", for my own safety and to not impede cars, I'm always on the a sidewalk when riding on arterial roadways.

Shin guards (any recommendations?) after I almost broke my leg today on the pedals, instead got around 6 stitches across two gigantic gashes. The blood flow was so big that the lower pant, sock and shoe was soaked heh. Luckily I was near a road so my friend could come pick me up with his car.
Bought some black Ti hardware from Better Bolts for my rear brake caliper and +20mm caliper mount. While I was ordering I added their Ti T-Type derailleur bolt. What’s funny is the Ti bolt is 8g heavier than the stock GX bolt! I guess the only reason anyone would buy this part is for a color change (I didn’t do).

I did it for color, for sure . I have stripped similar style aluminum axle bolts. These won’t strip. It gets tightened pretty good. I didn’t even consider weighing it. Take a look at what Troy Lee Designs (TLD) have. I have been using their Shock Doctor range for more than ten years, but sadly they have stopped making them in favour of something else, but I haven't looked so I can't tell you what. But their quality is good and the functionality is excellent.
