I think the Forum is discriminating against me because I don't see colors like most people. When attempting to select text in a reply, the "highlight" is so similar to the background that I can't see it. If I zoom in really large, I can barely make it out.

Example 1: The first attachment is just regular text on someone's post. I can select the text and see the highlighting.

Example 2: The second attachment is a reply. I select the text, and I can't see the highlighting. Is this must me, or does it look the same for everyone?

Regardless, Rob, is it hard to change the color to something with more difference in luminosity?

Thanks,
The Other Rob

"Discriminating" is a harsh word to use. Discrimination is done deliberately or without care once you know a category exists. But if you have no idea that such a category exists it is difficult to act in a discriminatory manner. For example it is hard to discrimate against someone with a specific blood group unless there are some visible characteristics that go with it, or they are wearing a label.

I had no idea that your problem was a thing, how on earth did you discover it?

@RustyIron I looked very carefully at your two examples. I can see the highlighting in the first one, it stands out. But in the second example I can see text only, no highlighting. Is that what you see?

Fascinating insight into the different issues with our vision. Is that a form of colour blindness?

Without getting too deep here …a text showing a $100,000 looks like $10 to me. So I’m very careful before I click the Buy Botton. 😉

It only seems to be on the dark mode :-) So your be careful shopping at night!

One of my mates was (RIP) red/green colour blind. How the hell he got to be a Fellow of the Institute of Explosives Engineers is a complete mystery to me. You would think that the colour of wires and explosives would be rather important!

One day, he told me that "suddenly" (as in overnight) he could see the fluorescent orange outlines round the back of trucks at night. Previously they were a dull brown. In addition, all the fluorescent roadsigns at night were now clear to him whereas before they were just roadsigns, like they were during the day.

Marvellous, but what caused this change? I have a theory. A few months later he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was dead soon afterwards. None of the medical profession seemed interested in the colour thing, and he and his family had other things to think about. I asked my optician and apart from expressing sympathy for the death of my friend he too had zero interest.

I suspect in the near future that AI will become a part of our diagnosis when we visit a doctor or medical specialist. I can’t fault or blame my doctor(s) for my misdiagnosis or incorrect prescriptions . They only know what they know.

I’m only lucky that my time remaining can no longer be determined or predicted.

Now if I can just break some emtb’ing records.

Yeah... I might not see reds, greens, browns, and grays the same way you do. The funny thing is that colors are relevant to my profession. I was pretty good and think I made a positive contribution. However, people with colorblindness are no longer accepted into the trade. Whatever. It's different times now.

No worries, Steve. I was pulling Rob's leg. I could just as easily said that the forum was discriminating against me because I'm old... or white... or Californian... or a hundred other things. That fact is, I care less about what a computer thinks about me than I care what my human detractors think. Party on, dude.

There’s a company that just came out with glasses that have auto adjusting lenses. I would imagine that colourblindness self adjusting lenses wouldn’t be far behind. I had a colourblind mate growing up that wore glasses that would help him see some colours, that was back in the 90s so I’d think they’ve gotten better since then.

Hey, Rob. I don't know if I'm being helpful by reminding you about something you forgot, or being an annoyance because you have a hundred other high-priority tasks and barely have time to ride your bike. If it's the latter, just tell me and I'll shut up about it.

If it's the former, maybe I can help. It's not that I know anything about Xenforo, but I asked Gemini. She seems to know a thing or two. She had a couple suggestions, but this looks like the most relevant.

Maybe I'll ask her if there's some kind of fancy CSS thing I can do on my browser. It's beyond my pay grade, but it might be a fun exercise. It's hot this week and I won't be riding, so there's time to experiment.

I've implemented a clunky solution on my end that's working fine. My solution affects the color of the selection highlights on all webpages, not just emtbforums. I might try to figure out how to apply it selectively, but this is good enough for now. I'm running Safari on MacOS.

I've created a text file named emtb.css
The contents of the file are:

::selection { background-color: #f2940a !important; color: #ffffff !important; }

Open Safari--Settings--Advanced--Style Sheet--Other
Then select the emtb.css file.

That's it. Typing out a message in emtbforums is MUCH easier now.
