Thought I'd say hi. Long time lurker first time subscriber and all that
35, based in North Yorkshire, local haunts are Errington Woods, N. Yorks moors, Guisborough and Hamsterley.

Rode on and off for years, from BMX and Dirt Jumping in the 2000s to Trials and now I just like to get out and ride trails most of the time the rougher and faster the better, with the odd adventure mooch spinning somewhere new thrown in to shake things up a bit.

Been wanting an ebike for about 10 years after a bloke went flying past me up a grim climb at Guisborough woods and I called him a cheater, so he waited for me at the top and when I caught up jumped off and told me to hop on his turbo levo, go back down the same hill and come back up. Got to the top laughing at how stupidly easy and fun it was and have wanted one since but bided my time until it felt right to pull the trigger, battery tech, motor tech, reliability, geometry, price and most importantly my own fitness etc.

Anyway, took delivery of my Whyte Kado RS last week which is my first non Specialized brand bike I've owned since 2009 and my first eeb and took it for it's maiden ride up my local Errington woods on Saturday. Was an absolute hoot. LBS did a cracking deal so got them to deck it out with Hope GR4's, floating rotors, Hope f22 pedals, kiox 400c and stick a cushcore in and save me the faff of converting to tubeless myself at the same time.

“Ya cheater” 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I haven’t been called a cheater for years now. I suppose there are too many of us having to much fun.

Cheers mate!

Haha yeah, times were different back then ey, circa 2015/2016 when electric motors were brand new to the mtb scene and it was all about "earn your turns" and all that rubbish. I was a pro ebike hater back then, literally up until that point I had a go of that Turbo Levo and ever since then I've not stopped wanting an eeb. Literally could have ate my helmet.

It's a game changer for how much riding you can get done and trail time in without cooking your legs

Cheers mate!

…times were different back then eh!
I fixed it for ya eh!😉 …but I only use that word at the beginning, middle and end, if every sentence I speak. 😉

Definitely a game changer. Even some young-guns are getting an EMTB for their lunch break rides.

My 18-year old grandson is gagging for an emtb. He doesn't need one; he's a really strong lad, been riding since he was two years old. He just wants one. I'm thinking of getting another bike, which will mean that I could give him mine. I know that he would love it, but the motor and battery would be totally broken within 3-4 months! But he will not have the money to fix it and I'm sure not paying for it!
So by NOT giving him the bike I will be doing him a favour! :)

I'm not tight, but he is 18 now; he's in full employment and driving a car around. I have been generous in the past, but I'm winding down now. I have bought every bike he's ever had since he was two years old and paid for all the maintenance, his clothing and protective gear. I funded his last bike build that took him from a medium to a large, so he ended up with an "as new" Orange Five RS* for £400 (cost to him), but I didn't get all the money until I sold all the bits, which took me months. I think he's a lucky lad.

My nephew (18yrs at the time ) is kinda the same. He breaks them…I fix them.

I no longer allow him to ride any of my spare EMTBs.…with or without me. Now that he’s got a job…”you break it…you buy it”. (FAFO).🤷🏼‍♂️

His parents appreciate the maintenance, repairs and components that I have provided. But that’s changing now. My older boys bare the cost of this sport …and they can afford it. They realize the cost of a broken frame.
