Pre-order starts next month - Next Crestline Avinox frame set

Do we know about EXT storia or Ohlins TTX22 fitment?
Ttx22m.2 will fit. I had it on my bike for a short period of time. Unsure about ext, haven't seen anyone with it on a 181. Only on a rs180 but that had different shock mounting and shock size.

I discussed this with Push, converting my Push 11-6 from a KSL to Crestline.

They said the below:

We don't have the RS 181 in for testing right now so therefore we cannot develop the ELEVENSIX fitment for it at this time and I can't advise using another fitment on this bike since it voids our warranty. It's not just the tune that's different between the ELEVENSIX shocks, it also can be the hardware, spring rates, and shock bridges for clearance reasons. The best option on this bike is to use our VT/X (we can convert your ELEVENSIX to this depending on the model year) or SV8 shock.
I was told basically the same thing. I have an S series 11/6 from my old gen 3 levo that will not fit the new gen 4 levo. I know the 11/6 is not configured for the crestline so I am probably selling it and getting the VT/X or SV8. Push mentioned they weren’t sure about the spring clearance and gave me a couple of aftermarket spring suggestions to use with there shock. Was just curious if anyone had mounted the vtx or sv8 with the push spring. Seems like I have seen a picture of one somewhere but not sure if it was a push spring.

Did you like the ohlins on the rs181? what are you running now?

Man I thought I was set on mavens but the more I read on them everyone recommends the dominions over them. Anyone here try both?

I’m now thinking dominions with the dseries 203mm rotors front and rear.

My boy has both Mavens and Dominions. I'll ask him for a review if he ever wakes up.
I just ripped down the street on the domains and they feel pretty darn similar to the mavens. I have a set of mavens on my dh rig and they are good. Progressive and powerful.

I'll give you the advice i gave my boy , which he chose to ignore. What brand is more commonly supported at your local bike shops or more importantly likely to be supported at the bike shop when you are away?

In nz Hayes are like rocking horse shit. So you really need to have your own spares because its unlikely to be able to buy parts the same day if we have a breakage. Sram, Shimano are pretty much at every shop. So the likely hood of a quick repair is high for commonly stocked stuff. Or if uncommon you may need to wait a few weeks to get your bike going again.

Yea appreciate any feedback your buddy gives too!

I do all my own work. I gave up on the local shops where I live. It was annoying at first, but I’m happy I did and finally broke down and got all the bike tools. It has taught me a lot and nothing on a bike is all that difficult to fix honestly. If I break something I am totally fine waiting for shipping, I just surf more during that time lol.

I hesitated to comment because it seems that about half the time I suggest TRP, I get scoffed at. However, I've had them on all my bikes from Ti Hard tails to TT bikes to E-bikes and they are the most reliable brakes I've ever had. Countless DH teams use them and the absolute best feature of them is once you have them set the way you want them, you just forget about them because they work perfectly far beyond the recommended service intervals.

Easy to user service, readily available parts, great customer service, bite adjust, lever adjust, 2.3mm rotors and they look great.

I'm looking at getting the EVO pro's also want to get trp's new transmission cassette.

Mavens are heavy handed compared to dominions (and everything else). The 2 lb 1-finger stopping power of the dominions is light years ahead since it takes 2 lbs just to break away the maven lever, 3 ounces for the Hayes. (the base maven is direct drive, no link, is around 1 lb, but has no swinglink for reduced pad travel) I use the T4 and T2 with carbon lever. I personally like the Hayes light feel and the "right now" braking with little dead stroke. AND they do modulate well, Maven has shimano-like feel, but more annoying, especially in the back. Either can be set up with min dead stroke. TBH, you need a lot of soft rubber to make use of the max power advantage of the Mavens, and the rear is way overkill binary with any tire. Mavens also seem to need a lot of ongoing attention, mostly based on reports from others. The 3 sets of Hayes I have used have been set and forget. One opinion from someone who has tested most modern brakes. Still a big fan of properly executed Shigura. BUT, if I were 260 lbs setting up a DH bike, Mavens do have purpose.

Congratulations! Which fork are you trying to buy, the Zeb or 38? What other components are you going to use? Im currently trying to find a good deal on some X0 kit. I should have bought stuff before the holidays 😬

Not sure if this would be the best deal out there, but found where you can get 15% off at least if this helps your cause.

I am putting together my shopping list today on my lbs site where I got the frame so they can give me the pricing for getting the frame and components through them.

Noticed they have a signup in the lower left that gives 15% off your order:

Also, I had added all my items to the cart and did not complete a purchase. Ths triggered an email that also sent me a code for 15% off:

Again, I am not certain this is the best deal out there since I am waiting for my custom quotes. If anyone else has some ideas on how to save some dough on components please feel free to share.

I will shop a bit before making any purchase to verify, but hopeful these guys are going to come through for me here!

Awesome head to head comparison, and so great to hear as I am going from Mavens to Hayes T4's as well for this build!

Totally agree the rear Maven locks way too easily even with a smaller 200 rotor vs 220 front, its kind of like the e-brake on a drift car!

Mavens have great raw power, but I am hoping for some modulation here to smooth things out and yes, go faster in the process!! I will add I have had no issue with my Mavens maintenance or fading on long descents, mine have been very consistent at least which is critical.

I have new TRP, gold, DHR calipers sitting in the bin. They sent me some ‘good faith’ parts and I never used them. Im pretty sure I have new rotors that they sent as well, if anyone is interested. I loved those Evo, but I wont be going back. I also have the levers/MC, but they are used and previous version.

Let me know and ill take a look at what I have.

I did enjoy it. Very damp and glued to the ground. Put back on my vivid coil until my telum comes in (stuck in customs). I really liked the 38 m.3 fork. However, my ocd of matching fork and shock kicks in and takes over.

How do you like the vivid coil in comparison? I’m on ext storia v4 on my amflow but pre-ordered the vivid coil crestline.

Managed to bag a Plaid Edition with FOX DHX2 :giggle: Can anyone give me a good reason NOT to pair this with a FOX Podium Inverted 170mm fork? I've heard good things about this fork but would appreciate any input from someone who has had experience with it on an ebike, even if it's negative.

Is Ridewrap the go-to for frame protection in Sydney area or can someone vouch for alternatives?

Cheers!

Welcome to the family!

I was considering going for the "podium" for my upcoming girl, and will give you my reasoning for "NOT" doing so.

1 - Fox does not offer this in a 180mm, and you bet I certainly want a 180 fork on my 180 frame.
2- Not too mention with that less travel, you get MORE WEIGHT! (2695g VS 2194g on the 38).
3- Same X2 damper on a heavier fork doesnt sound like a massive upgrade for most scenarios in my mind.

But wait there's more!

4- Not only do you get less travel with 23% more weight, but this thing will set you back $2,099 vs $1309?!!

Summary - Costs 67% more to get the same dampers, 6% less travel, and 23% more weight. No thank you Fox!

Even as sexy as my eyeballs say it is, I simply cannot justify adding that much weight and cost without significant gains for everywhere I am riding. For the Crestline, they even suggest to grab a shorter shock if you want to run a 170. Again, additional costs with limiting benefit.

Oh yeah, and the 38 is just great already!!

Sorry, I know you only asked for 1 reason. ;)

So it comes with cane creek headset. Does that include the crown race, steering stem spacers, stem cap? I’m assuming crown race, but thinking spacers and cap might need to be ordered.

I feel like I’m gonna be missing some of these little parts lol. Trying to make sure I have everything on hand for when the frame comes!

"Economy headset" on this thing?!!

1768551723949.png

.. Probably getting replaced anyhow!! ;) (y)

More expensive CC headsets only have "better" bearings that aren't as strong as the 40 bearings. As someone who has wasted a lot of money on the top of the line CC.

Yeah, I was gonna say the 40 is a great headset. CC is trying to get you to spend more on a headset by calling the 40 a "Economy Headset".

I forgot to add.... there are not many complete 56/56 headset options out there. It's really only a standard on some DH bikes.

Fwiw, the CC 40 headset on my Crestline has held up better than any other headset I've had, I serviced it yesterday expecting to find it worn but was mint. I have a box of other headset bearings that are younger that are nowhere near as good.

I'm beating the hoarse of course but the 40 has steal bearings... ceramic, alumunum... just don't last when smashing a long travel emtb. Troydon got us covered, don't doubt it!

Thanks for al the inputs on headsets all!

I have an Acros on my Levo 3 and this thing will start creaking every time I wash it. No high pressure, just a showering rinse, and even trying to avoid the thing mostly while spraying.

Can't stand noises while I am riding (onyx hubs amplify stuff!), and I need to pull apart regrease the darn thing every other wash roughly. Oh yeah, and I wash the bike at least weekly so you can bet I was considering getting the finest headset I can.

Hoping this will go away with the 40?! Dont need marketing or a giant warranty, just smooth quiet action that lasts and lasts. In the old days I would pop the Chris King on there and simply forget about it.

Thanks for the inputs, the 40 is the one it seems.. Or wait, I just got a feeling I am getting the Works in my box!!

While on the subject, I sure would love to get this super sweet Crestline stem cap!

You can beat the horse with beets till you're hoarse, of course, and steal some steel bearings. But please don't peddle your bike or you will be out of a ride :-P.

Good stuff.. although I think we all have more than one bike laying around at this point!! ;)

Agreed. I have 3,000 miles on several of these and I wash my bike after every ride.

Acros could be the worst headset design in the world, it should be removed from existence (can you tell I've had to deal with it in the past?). The top bearing can't be removed from the cup and the compression ring is plastic. I throw them away immediately. CC is none of that, you'll be fine with it. Works are very good as well. FYI, the reach adjust lower cup has a 14mm stack if that's relevant to you.
