Need to replace rear shock

Hi Guys, due to stupidity and letting the bike stand clamp scratch the shock tube, its leaking oil so presumably its toast and needs replacing.
Now I'm a complete newbie on this subject. I realise that 230x60 is the size I need but see that generally they don't come with bushings fitted and I may need to get these also?
Could anyone advise me what I need to purchase and can I easily fit it myself?
The current shock is a Lapierre oem fitment so I don't think I can get another one of them. I'm only after an equivalent and not a £££ upgrade.
I have seen this on eBay here but totally unsure if it will fit as the eyes on mine are on a different axis, ie the bottom one is twisted 90 degrees in relation to the top eye.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

You can pick up a Rockshox damper shaft betwen £20-£50. You need to work out the part number & go from there & after that it comes down to whether or not you can fit it. Shocks aren't difficult to work on but you do need tools & aptitude, otherwise just replace it or get a bike shop to do it;

The good news is a scratched damper shaft will only kill the shock slowly by wearing the seal & causing oil to leak.

ETA: Damper shafts rotate freely, so the one you linked being 90 degress off is no issue.

Sounds like it would be best to get a bike shop to do it for you. 230 x 60 eye to eye is a pretty common size.
 
Consider sending it to one of the suspension servicing companies. Try TF Tuned on 01373 826800. They are very helpful and friendly. Tell them your problem, ask for advice.

Do you think the Lapierre item is made by Rockshox?
 
Thanks guys, I'll go down the professional help route I think.
Its performing ok at the moment, just leaking a bit of oil but that will run out soon no doubt!
 
Quick question, can I simply remove the shock or will it explode in my hands as I'm removing it :eek::D

I don't know, it looks like a Rockshox but you haven't said. The specs of your bike should tell you exactly what is fitted but Lapierre don't make shocks, they buy them in. If it's specific to the bike, odds are all they've done is specify an off the shelf shock & maybe had the factory build it with a bespoke tuning I.e. the shim stack that controls oil flow through the compression & rebound citcuits.

And no, it won't explode if you remove it lol. There will be about 2-300 psi in the air can that if you really want, you can release through the Schrader valve. But since you've asked that, probably wisest to take it to the bike shop & get them to replace it for you.

The OP must have already used the Schrader valve to set the bike's sag. Best to just remove the valve cap and press the tit to let the air out. Beware, the frame will close up like it would if a heavy rider sat on the bike, so keep your fingers out of the way. :eek:

Hi, as I see - it can't leaking oil for this scratch - it is air area, oil area deep inside shock. You can note some grease. In such case I will be remove scratch corners and use women's UV nail polish - make it smooth and forget about scratch.

Guilty as charged, but all the shocks I have seen have Schrader valves, therefore all shock valves are Schrader!
Finding a non-Schrader will be a "Black Swan" event.
All swans observed throughout history were white, therefore all swans are white.
That was true until early explorers of Australia discovered some black swans! :oops:
I need to see an original equipment non-Schrader valve on a shock.
