Hello,

I bought a brand new 2025 Cube Stereo Hybrid One44 SLX 800 a few weeks ago. After the first test ride on mostly flat and paved roads (no trails or off-road), I wanted to clean it and properly set up the suspension.

I noticed a slight cracking noise coming from the top of the frame every time I put weight on the bike (i.e., when I sit on it). The sound was coming from the top of the rear Fox shock. The shock was pressing against the frame with substantial force. The force was so strong that after just one 30 km ride, it removed paint and started scratching into the layer beneath it—this was the source of the sound.

If I place a piece of paper between the shock and the frame at that specific point, the paper is loose. However, when I sit on the bike, the paper gets squeezed so tightly that it can't be removed without tearing. So yes, there is contact—and it's quite strong.

I brought the bike back to the seller, only to find out that another bike they had there (same XL version, different color) had the same problem! I tried the paper test on that one too, with the same result.

How is this possible? Is this a bad batch of frames? A human error? Or a design flaw affecting all Cube bikes of this model? I can't believe they'd sell bikes where the rear shocks are damaging the frame. Such force on the frame seems dangerous in the long term.

In the attached picture, you can see the damage on the left side. The right side looks exactly the same, with another spot where the paint has been removed.

Latest update to my experience, the shop has inspected the bike and confirmed the bike is correctly set up. Despite this the rear shock does make contact with the shock mount and they have stated that it is absolutely not caused by user error. They have referred their findings to Cube for their consideration. I have also been keeping the finance company informed of progress.
Hopefully we can secure a swift resolution to this as I just want to be able to ride it!!
Hello, is there any update on the solution? I would like to buy this model too but I don't know if I should wait for the next generation

The outcome is that Cube have authorised a replacement frame under warranty. I’m still waiting for it to be delivered to the store. It remains to be seen if it’ll solve the issue.

You have different shock. I actually believe this problem is mostly caused by the type of mount and shape of that one specific FOX shock used on the 144 SLX . To my surprise, the new generation (2026) of this bike, has the exact same frame with the same type of shock:

I haven't seen the new 2026 version in person though, so I don't know if it has the same problem.

Well after much waiting the replacement frame arrived and the bike shop built up the bike and guess what? Same problem.

They are looking into changing the model of shock which might resolve the issue but the huge amount of time I’ve been without my bike is so frustrating.

I have seen the new bikes in person and yes, the gap is miniscule. I wonder how can they use the shock if it obviously damages the frame during normal use.
Also, I wonder if I should consider a different spec or brand...

It is hard to see how much of interference there is with the shock / frame interface. From what I see it is definitely at the least a cosmetic issue for such a beautiful frame and paint. I also wonder if it is a universal problem or just a production run or occasional layup issue. With that being said and with how much I like the Cube 177 SLX I am in the market for a 144 for a family member I would be inclined to overlook the rubbing when considering the overall value, especially when there is a sale. Also the fact that Cube will replace the frame tells me a lot about the customer service of the company.

Did anyone sort this issue out? One thing that has come up on a forum is that so bikes seem to have a washer and sleeve see photo.
Just checked mine and definitely no sleeve but if that was left out it could explain the issues people are having?

The latest in my saga is that cube authorised a replacement frame but the shop found the same issue when they built it up. They are now trying to chase down their rep to authorise either a 2026 frame which they say doesn’t have the same issue, or upgrade the rear shock to one of a different shape.

How odd did yours have the silver sleeve like in my photo?

I realised I didn’t post an update after this. In the end, the whole bike was replaced as the new frame would take too long and the shop already had a 2026 bike ready to go.

I say I got a whole new bike, I kept my wheels as the shop wouldn’t authorise a tubeless setup on the replacement bike without charging through the nose so in the end it was simpler to keep the wheels from my original bike!

While everything looks the same as the last bike, an important little notch has been built into the fram by the shock mount which gives just enough clearance!

I’ve used it for several months now without issue, no creaks or any sign of the shock impacting the frame.
