Levo SL Gen 1 Levo SL 2023 Megathread

That’s normal!
I have Levo SL2, Kenevo SL2 and Creo SL2 at home.
Aha okay. I can maybe make a video later of the sound to
Thanks for answering 😊

.. I have it setup to 29er but using a mullet wheel, and I have the HA in "slack" but the BB position set to "high" to compensate for the 27.5+long chainstay lowering the BB. It rides like a dream! ..

Does anybody know how much the BB will be lowered by flipping to 29 while runnig Mullet?
I'm running HA in neutral and BB in low, ca 5mm lower BB would still be OK for me

hehe, I know. But considering my craftsman talent i maybe end up with a broken flip chip and still having 27'5 😅 maybe i am lucky and someboday measured already the BB.
I haven't measured, just went with the recommendations (and now running Cascade so must keep it in high anyways)

It was an alloy one, so although it's a great bike it doesn't really make sense it's not really an sl.

Once I added a range extender to do rides I wanted to do it basically weighted full fat weight.
Dam that makes sense. How much heavier was the alloy version compared to the carbon?

size S4-S5 alloy is around is 20kg without pedals. with the range extender, pedals and stock tires i'm guessing 21.3kg. the range extender is pretty heavy. Gen 3 Levo (S4) alloy w/o pedals is around 23kg.

Wow that is pretty heavy for an SL. I have the S-Works gen2 S5 and it weighs 18.5 kg with pedals, a coil shock, and beefy tires (but w/o extender). I'm assuming with extender it's still under 20kg.

Yeah the alloy version is just not worth getting. My gen2 S3 carbon comp w/ range extender weighs 19.49kg(43lbs)

The extender is just 1kg on my scale, not too bad
My scale reads 1.07kg(2.35lbs) with the cable.

Hi folks,
is it normal that the headset bearing has so much play in the seat? I made the comparison with a 2020 Stumpjumper, where I have similar play. I ask because I would like to know how it is when new...

I’m not sure exactly what you mean by “play in the seat”, but the headset should be loose enough to allow free rotation of the fork without any looseness or play. One way to test for play is to push the front wheel against a wall with the fork locked, hold the front brake, and rock the bike back and forth. These should be no play or wobble in the fork/headset.

If you need to adjust the top stem clamp bolt be sure to loosen the stem clamping screws on the side to allow adjustment. “Slightly snug” is usually enough to remove any play but still allow free rotation.

Asking in here as it's more likely to get a response (I posted a new thread before realising this existed - I'm a newbie).

Took delivery of a brand new Levo SL Ohlins Coil last week and took it on its first ride on Monday. There was a lot of clattering on the descents so curious if anyone else on here has had similar/has any pointers as to likely culprits? From what I've read online the bikes are silent but mine is not at all. It has GX AXS, clutch feels pretty weak but I'm used to Shimano so maybe that's just a SRAM thing. Everything else is assembled correctly and torqued to spec.

Any feedback appreciated.

Check that the mech clutch is not "locked" open maybe with the lock button stuck in.

The little button that you use to lock the mech open to remove the wheel (have never used SRAM drivetrain so bear with me here)?. Isn't that sprung loaded so should self return should it not? Will have a look later anyway, the clutch feels non existent.

Yes and yes....if pushed in it should release if you pull the mech forward .
Is the mech mounted on a hanger or is it direct mount? Original AXS or TType? Maybe the mech is not fitted correctly?

Sure, if you run the small gears it should release on its own...

It's direct mount, so T Type. Mech looks to be installed correctly, markings all line up etc. it's a brand new bike from specialized.

sounds like the bike was delivered?? Have you done anything to the bike since recieving it? post a photo of the mech with bike on smallest cassette cog

Yeah it was delivered from Tredz in the UK. I'm pretty experienced with MTB maintenance etc, just never had SRAM drivetrain but the mech operates perfectly fine and looks totally normal in terms of cage position through the gears. Chain length etc all good. I'm not saying it's definitely a mech issue but apparently the 1.2 motors are silent so I'm kind of ruling out the motor as the culprit and the mech is the obvious next place to look (and the non direct mount AXS mechs are reported to clatter around due to lack of a cable preventing rotation on the axle - think that is solved with direct mount though).

The clutch is really weak compared to the XT clutch on my non assisted bike but maybe that's just SRAM mechs? The bike has decent chain stay protection so I'm guessing that would mute a lot of the chain slap noise if the clutch was pretty weak. The bike just sounded like crap when descending my local trails (which are quite rocky to be fair), my non assistant bike (Stanton full suss) is dead silent.

What about internal cable management? Any issues there? Just looking for ideas really if there are common culprits.

Cheers
Dave

My SL is a 2020 bike and it's pretty quiet. It runs a SRAM drivetrain. I was thinking that it not a loose coil spring where the preload has not been set and the spring is rattling when unloaded? Just a thought.

Good shout but checked the pre load before taking it on its maiden voyage. I'll see if I can get a recording of the noise by lifting the back wheel and dropping it to the ground.

The Levo SL is about the quietest EMTB when descending but I wouldn’t describe it as completely silent. You can detect a slight gear tapping noise over certain bumps but I certainly wouldn’t describe it as intrusive and doesn’t sound like what you’re experiencing unless you are very sensitive to noise. I also ride an Epic 8 and that is completely silent.
The gear and brake cables could easily be the culprit. My ones at the bar end needed tidying up a bit with some clips as they tended to tap against the bar and each other. The sram clutch is pretty strong and you will feel definite resistance if you push the lower cage. More than enough to stop and chain slap. If it doesn’t, you may have a faulty mech.

I'll have a look at the mech again later and compare to my XT mech with clutch on and off. If the resistance is no more than XT with clutch off then that would suggest a mech issue.

I am quite sensitive to noise, maybe obsessive (I've ended rides early when my bike has been noisy on climbs as it irritates me 🤣), but the noise is definitely intrusive. I'll have a look at it tomorrow and see if I can trace where the noise is coming from and feed back here.

Thanks for all of the inputs so far.

I'm changing my shock on my SL2 (2024 carbon comp) to an RS Vivid.

Does anyone know what size hardware I need? also, can I just re-use the rear hardware?

Cheers
