Id be a bit worried about the steerer/stanchion creak on a 36@170mm but I wish you luck and no creaks. All my forks eventually get the creak 😭

I opted for a 2022 grip2 fox 38, since i am not convinced that the x/x2 is for me.

My bike is near it's final form although i don't know about the rear shock yet. Something is not perfect for sure, but I am a bit unsure how to fix it. The very high pressure makes rebound damping tricky. I wish they had made the stroke longer than 55mm.

I'm struggling with the Float a bit but i've got an Ohlins TTX2AIR m.2 on the way. I find I need to run the Float at 35% or more sag to deal with my local trails and the rebound adjustment is quite weak. I'm coming from a Float X Factory on another bike with 165mm travel though, so this little trail shock was always going to struggle with my weight of around 95kg.

Ohlins should be here any day now and i'm sure that will be much more suitable for me. If not, i'll likely stick a coil on. Looks like the 2026 Fox DHX2 is supported now!

Please report in this thread when you get the new shock! It's hard though because even it it doesn't improve much of anything we need to justify the purchase to ourselves 😂

I finally got it and installed it. Set my sag roughly (I’ll do it more accurately when I’ve got all my riding gear on tomorrow) but just around my street it feels really nice right out of the box.

I found the original Float shock quite linear and clicky (although it wasn’t on the same level as my Fox 38 Gripx2 up front) and I could feel that imbalance.

The Ohlins feels much smoother and balanced with my fork - quite similar to how I have a Fox Float X Factory setup on another bike, which I really like.

Full test and setup tomorrow and for bonus points there is a tonne of clearance for my 750ml Fidlock twist!

I have been looking at that shock myself. I hope to get some ride impressions :) how much pressure do you need?

Manual said to start at 175psi but I’m 92kg so I knew that wasn’t going to work. I put 250 in which is about 25% without my hip pack, riding shoes and helmet, so I’ll see how it looks when I’ve got those on.

I’m going to start at 30% sag and do some clicker bracketing tomorrow and take a shock pump with me

@volts oooh it’s nice.

First ride, 245psi for 30% sag with the HSC position 1 (soft/open), LSC and REB both as they came from the factory, bang in the middle.

A little surprised how well it climbs wide open as it bobs quite a bit peddling on the flat. But the traction was great and no bouncing me off roots and rocks like the Fox Float.

DH it’s a different world. Much more tractable, just ate everything on my local enduro loop, and the rear end felt more nimble and turned sharper. Sag ring is about 10-12mm off bottom out.

I just hit my joint Strava PB on this bike on a 3 minute downhill, which is pretty impressive as it’s been raining solid for 2 days and I felt like I was taking it relatively easy. In the dry I’d say I’ve got at least another 10-15 seconds in me just changing to this shock.

Next ride I’ll get around to doing some bracketing!

Sounds awesome! Im very tempted to try that myself now.

Have you sprayed your bike? Looks more crayon or white than silver!

I did, it’s like a Nardo grey but just a little lighter. I’ve got a friend with a professional spray shop and I thought I’d customise it as I was taking everything off pretty much and it was very cheap (approx $250 USD).

I’ve also got 2 riding friends with the silver so it’s nice to not all have the same bike.

Dang yeah that looks great. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me at first!

A used vivid ultimate came up on ebay so thought I'd give that a go. Later read that the rockshox springs may hit the frame on full compression so I've bought a sprindex so it wasn't quite the bargin I hoped for - £350 for both.

Not had that much riding on it but the initial plushness is night and day and highlights the base pl for my weight (90kg) doesn't perform all that great at small bump stuff, my vitus e mythique with a basic rockshox shock is much better(maybe weight helps here?) but the coil rectifies that.

Where on the frame would it hit on compression?
Im considering rs sd coil since the ohlins is just so expensive here.
I have a sd air hbo and its better than stock but still not great.

2026 Fox DHX2 is fully compatible and the smaller piggy would give better clearance for a bigger bottle if needed.

I had a 170mm 36 Factory on my acoustic enduro bike pre-ebike.
I am a heavy rider and it was given a good workout. Never heard a single creak.
It was plenty stiff enough and beautifully plush, and I never felt like I needed a 38 or Zeb.

Strange. I had creaks on zeb, lyrik, 36 and mezzers. It eventually happens.

So the Fox X2 air shock doesn’t fit.…anyone know if the Vivid air fits?
