Pic of the Day

How do you find your Sram drivetrain?
I've got a Rail 9 on order
I’ve used the SRAM AXS GX derailer with the Shimano XT cassette, Shimano 8100 chain, ethirteen 34t chainring and a slightly bigger jockey/guide wheel for almost 4 years. Smooth, quiet, fast.

But the SRAM T-type AXS on the Trek Fuel is very nice though. Me likes!

I could swap foliage pictures all day probably.
I hope people using that trail appreciate the time and effort you put in. The forestry commission has taken down some big wooden stuff at Fochabers. Sign saying it has come to the end of its life , twenty years I think it said. I don't use it anymore and not sure how many do to be honest but I doubt it will be rebuilt.
Sometimes I envy the pics in here of the wide open rolling hills, the Alps, the history, the restaurants etc.

But then I would miss the Rain Forest, the thick foliage, numerous trees, wildlife …and the isolation.

There is no Starbucks at the end of the trail 😉.

There are a few features here that were built 15-30 years ago, probably by kids with too many nails. 😳

This feature is next to a trail that I rebuilt. I’ve replaced and rebuilt the features (not this one) and added bridges.

This trail (“Compost”), is now included in a race next week. Preparation videos have been taken for the race participants. I’ll take some photos and/or volunteer for the races.

The first 3 trails on our mountain are called “Garbage, Recycle, and Compost “. And they are popular.

I hope this link to YouTube works. A friend took this video a few days ago. Stage 3. Short n’ Sweet.

I prefer a snowy winter landscape . I loved winter walking in Scotland but too old now it's heavy going breaking trail. But yes foliage is the one, here's The Devils Pulpit went here a couple years ago . Spoiled after it was used for scene in Outlander series.

Looking good I would manage that one.

Do you mean the trail or that crazy f*****up feature?😉

“Compost” is becoming a popular trail. I made it so I could climb it as well but it’s fun and fast going down.

At the end it merges with “Recycle” and “Garbage”.

Today was going to be the day that we showed some of our group the " new " ride out of Wooler that Wayne & myself rode a couple of weeks back..unfortunately things went tits up from the off with broken bikes, holidays & dog sitting meaning it just didn't get off the ground 😢
Fortunately we have at least one victim ...err..I mean mate who will be riding it with us on Wednesday....Jaco fresh from a mini break in the Lakes 👍🏻.
As an alternative Wayne suggested a morning riding Bolts Law ( there & back ) ..a particular favourite of ours ..especially the back bit as it gives in the main 5.5miles of downhill on some cracking singletrack ..today however we had to contend with riding into a 40mph + WSW wind which made the outward leg more than a bit tough ..but man oh man the return with the wind behind us was something else..
11.8 miles with 925ft ascent ..
Some pics of Wayne going up & coming down ..

This afternoon was a loop out of Blanchland ..with a section we hadn't ridden before ( and probably won't again 😁)..with that pesky wind not giving any respite and if anything getting stronger ..the Carriers Way section although dry & dusty and a bit of a flyer normally ..was a nightmare trying to maintain forward motion with the wind blowing you sideways ..but eventually when we turned onto Birkside Fell it worked in our favour again ..
13.6 miles with 1575ft ascent
A couple of pics from Wayne's camera of the writer of this post 😉..
Or maybe not ( I'm currently having to try multiple times to post pics )

Oh..there we go 😂
Nice pint in The Manor House to finish the day ( & me) off ..
That wind made it tough 😳

Trails in top class order, dry and fast. Some very technical singletrack proved to be a real challenge in the cross winds. Great ride, the Moors looked resplendent covered in purple heather.
Nice pint of Guinness to finish off a grand day out. Cheers Neil 👌

As a trail/feature builder I don’t want to put the landowner at risk of liability. (BC Parks, Municipality or private landowner). Some of our trails are not mapped or even sanctioned for a reason. I try to stay within the un-written rules as best as I can.

The volunteer trail builders are starting to add chicken lanes or ride-arounds. We don’t want to draw attention to our efforts.

The other problem can be water erosion caused by a poorly built trail. Some creeks have a mind of their own and begin to erode trees and trails. The volunteers realize this (after a monsoon) and make adjustments or repairs to the trail.

Usually after a trail or feature is built, the area can look like a construction zone. Sometimes after we re-plant with small trees or Ferns. Takes about a year, or two, to look natural again. Must be my Foliage Fettish. 😉🤷🏼‍♂️

The wooden ones recently dismantled by the forestry are an example of liability. They are twenty years old now but before they were opened someone used it unofficially , crashed and ended up paralysed. He sued and won he got over a million pounds . I couldn't believe it at the time .

This century we have become a victim society.

Someday I might start yelling at the clouds ☁️. Maybe I’m already doing that.

My political time is behind me, and my views have changed. I recognize the consequences of more things as I age. “The times are a changing”.🤷🏼‍♂️

My/Our hobby is risky and a simple crash on a trail can be costly.…but so can walking out your front door 🚪.

For it is written. Well said

Back to Switzerland and Samnaun. That promised land of double decker gondolas.

On the other side of the top is hard spelling Ischgl. Bike park is on both sides.
I didn't have time to ride the area's perhaps most famous route, the Smuglers trail, which is a so-called high alpine trail.
From the top, there was a fairly airy return route back to the Samnau valley.
