Twice in one week I'm sharing your pain ..
It's kind of heading that way for me too..but anniversaries & birthdays are still in the mix ..😉

Hope the missus doesn't see this !
It's ok pal a lot of folk on here probably wont know the pun , well did you get your oats this morning.

I only know Scottish porridge oats that's what I meant by funny looking That looks like nuts or some kind of breakfast cereal to me . I worked on Norwegian ships for many years , just don't remember that. But I'm sure they have some sort of traditional dish similar to our oats on xmas eve .🤔
The nuts is some hipster food named granola.
I grew up on a farm in the 60" so I have had my share of porridge and blood pudding with sugar on it😋

I was going to say Granola but thought I must be wrong. Blood pudding haha we all thought it was Black pudding everyone put it on with bacon and eggs and got a surprise , I remember it well. The sweet brown cheese was another one I remember.

Ride on the Pine Creek Gorge trail. Flat gravel trail on an old rail line. 64.9 miles (104 k), only 957 feet of ascent. Beautiful day in the mountains of Pennsylvania. Bike: Turbo Tero 5.0.

About 50 miles into the ride I stopped to change my water bottle and take a break. When I grabbed the bike, I realized I had a new friend about 3 feet from my bike.

A five foot long Timber Rattle Snake! He was none to happy by the rattle sounds coming from that tail. Startled me to the point I dropped the bike and backed away. He moved away a few feet, I grabbed a quick photo and took off.

The best ride memories are the ones with a story to tell.

Thanks for the reminder to keep my eyes and ears open. We have some big cottonmouth and rattlers where I ride....

I will be forever grateful to Derek Purdy for his MTB " Bible " Northumbrian Mountain Biking the routes within getting me off my lardy arse and into the hills in this brilliant county ..
Back in the day when Derek was writing his book Emtbs wouldn't have even been a twinkle in a manufacturer's eye ..so he can be forgiven for not introducing some of the best trails in the Eastern Cheviot Hills in his book.
The route myself & Wayne tackled today was based on his " Wooler Common/ Broadstruther " ride ..the first half of which neither of us had ever ridden ( sacrificing the latter part of his ride over to Threestoneburn / The Dod & Ilderton ..we might have been able to stretch the route to include this but with little over 40% battery it might have ended badly !)
What we discovered in terms of "new" trails in the first half of the route has catapulted this into one of my favourite routes in these hills and one of the best rides of the year..it had a bit of everything ..and it won't be long before we are back again 👌
The pics that were taken don't really do justice to the route as the best bits were too good to stop on ..
Can't wait to get back out there with the rest of the group ( those that can make it ) ..you won't be disappointed 😁.
Cheers to Wayne for craic & company ..he loved it just as much as me ..

A nice pint in the beer garden of the Tankerville Arms finished off a perfect day ..

Wayne's strava figures had 500ft .more ascent ..so obviously that's what we are claiming 😉😁

I can concur this was a really good ride in the Eastern Cheviots riding out of Wooler.
It was in total contrast to the Walna Scar loop out of Coniston I rode with some of the Northern EMTB riders motley crew a few days previous but in no means less enjoyable.
Desolate moorland bridleways,, excellent singletrack and stunning vista's. This is not a full on technical ride but a classic Northumberland moorland/hills cross country ride with loads to keep you on your toes. As @The Hodge mentioned, this is a ride to do again and one of the best in the Cheviots as It had a bit of everything. Always good to be on the trails with me marra, good craic. Out on the tops in the first pic and Neil emerging from the valley shrubbery after riding very tricky off camber singletrack

The final ford crossing before heading over to the east of A697 to the last loop of the ride.

We came across an intact and accessible PIL box from WWII amazing!! 580c97d3-90dc-4d84-b476-2e1391bdd45b.jpeg
