Spoke to a brain trauma surgeon mate of mine, about full face helmets on bicycles. He actually said that at lower speed accidents, the nose, face and chin act as a good crumple zone for the brain. And wearing a full face helmet can actually increase the likelihood of brain injury. But he still recommends wearing them mountain biking to save your face. It was just an observation.

One thing I did do from this tip, is insure the chin piece is not super rigid. So it will reduce and cushion impact to my face, but not completely prevent it, dependant on the crash.
 
Galfer green brake pads for the Hayes Dominions and TRPs, I went with greens because I hate bedding in pads 😅.

Also an EXT Storia for the DH KSL build, I went Storia rather than e-Storia because I’m only 50kg and the bike is ~19kg (and it was a chunk cheaper).

Now about to order a million quids worth of Conti tyres.

The one up v2 was my choice for dropper but none in stock anywhere in 210 or 200 can’t remember
the SDG was a good choice at £160 from lesiure lake bikes so not all bad
 
I bought, drum roll, a new motor cover after the original suddenly fell to the ground Saturday, luckily at not an inopportune moment.

On closer inspection it had cracked around where the torx bolt goes through.

New, old:

New motor cover, cube reaction hybrid Old broken Bosch motor cover

Not the most exciting way of spending 20€, but was necessary. To compensate, I've ordered myself a new lid for my noggin.
 
I bought a Shimano SLX RD-M7100 sgs (12-speed rear mech). This was mech no 5!

The bike came new with an XT mech (no 1), but after 365 miles it snapped clean in two (a pine sapling will do that!) It was Covid and the only mech the bike shop had was an SLX, (oh and a very expensive gold-coloured KMC chain, again all they had). The SLX mech (no 2) was a good purchase and I could not tell the difference when riding it. Then after another 1400 miles the new SLX (no 2) snapped clean in two, again right through the body!) Replaced with another SLX (no 3). After a further 1300 miles, the cage got severely bent and I replaced it with another SLX (no 4)! I did my best to straighten th bent cage of no 3 and put it to one side as a spare. After only another 360 miles I bent the cage (no 4) again (yet another pine sapling). It wasn't as badly bent as the previous one but I just could not get the shifting working properly. I checked the mech hanger alignment and that was out by 6mm. Got that spot on all round. Still didn't work. Removed the mech (no 4) and refitted the straightened spare (no 3). That was worse! It seems that jockey wheel alignment is best not done off the bike. Ordered a new SLX mech (no 5). Fitted that today. The upper jockey needed to be a lot closer to the cassette, but once I'd done that it was perfect. Same chain and shifter cable as for no 4.

That is five mechs including the original. Ignoring the latest one, which has done no miles, I'm averaging 860 miles per mech (over 6 pence per mile). Maybe I should move to 10-speed? Or stop riding in the forest!

The two mechs that I straightened (nos 3 & 4) look perfectly good when in my hand. They are very slightly different to each other, but when compared with a new one, the jockey wheels are in the wrong place. In fact, the whole cage is in the wrong place! I will keep them in case I snap no 5 through the body (like nos 1 & 2).

By the way mech nos 3&4 that didn't snap, had to have their cages straightened several times (no 3 three times, no 4 once) before they received the damage that removed them from the bike.
