If Brose, Shimano, Bosch or even DJI make on MGU, SRAM may have no choice but to make one or lose their monopoly.

Here is a link to a 2023 review of the early Brose Drive3 peak motor. I am confident that its software has been further refined by Specialized for application on the Gen 4 Levo, if in fact that is the motor they will spec. Look good to me!

Yes I had 4 in 2 years….
Interesting, between me and my local group there are 6 Levo owners with whom I rode at some point in time, 5 of them have never experienced motor problems. One guy even rode gen1 Levo.
The guy whose motor died said that he actually abused it a bit, he wasnt shifting correctly, rode in turbo within limited gear range.
I dont want to say that every faulty motor is a result of bad shifting habits, but I cant stop thinking why in my region Levo seems like pretty reliable bike and at the same time people in internet screams about faulty motors at incredible scale.
My mechanic make motor rebuild for 100$ and reanimate some old Brose motors, he says its easily repairable and almost all parts can be purchased and replaced, despite planetary mechanism I guess . Most cases are simply water corrosion or broken planetary mechanism which is more rare in his experience.

I have a Gen 3 with over 7k miles and 150 cycles with no motor battery issues. I read this site daily about failures and I've come to the conclusion it must be folks who tend to use turbo 100% of the time in higher gear ranges. I do tend to be a higher cadence rider. I'm taking mine to the dealer for the first time just before the 2yr mark next week, just to get a visit on record before the 2-year mark.

I wonder if a small amount of the Levo motor issue would disappear if they went to a 6 magnet rear & issued a software update to let the user select 1 or 6 magnets. This may reduce surging & give the motor more precise control. Doesn't seem like it would be a hard thing to do.
It's all about luck tbh, my gen 3 also has about 6,5k km, and still no issues. A friend that rides with me is on his 4th motor already in like 14k km, but these things get abused as hell, sometimes, these motors get fully under water when we go past some rivers. The good thing is Spesh under warranty gives us new ones
My local bike shop is a Spesh and bosch dealer, and they have complained that Spesh is giving too many issues on the motors, the only good thing compared with bosch is that when in need of a replacement Specialized takes like 1 week to deliver a new one while bosch you can wait like 2 months for them.

That depends more on the weight, and physical shape of the rider, I have a Vala Kit S size M, I weight 68Kg with all the gear on. I have a friend that rides a 2 year old Specialized Levo Carbon Comp, size L, and weights more 25Kg than me. Is Levo consumes, in average, 25% Wh than my Vala. And it's not a battery problem because it happens with both the 500Wh and 700Wh battery of the Levo.

Bottom line, Santa Cruz sold you a full power e bike with a below market trend sized battery at a premium price. For the money you paid, you should have received a range extender with the bike. Santa Cruz somehow convinced people that they should pay more money for less batteries. A e bike with a Bosch motor and a 600wh battery should cost less than a e bike with a Bosch motor 800wh battery. Vala riders should just accept they got ripped off…. Maybe form some support groups to deal with the fact they got ripped off.

The difference in price for the battery is a couple hundred at most… I would far rather have the option to have a lighter bike and add a range extender for longer rides or bike park laps when main battery is dead. Gives you much more flexibility.
You are right the higher spec bikes should have extenders as part of the spec. They make so much dollar from the 10k builds this should be easily affordable. It’s those kind of additions that could help to soften what we all know are fairly ridiculous prices.
It should have come with a range extender for what you paid for it. Just admit it. Vala’s are a total ripoff .

I doubt specialized will use Brose's batteries. Will likely have their own proprietary ones as in the past. Also remains to be seen if they even use a Drive3 or something else Brose have cooked up specifically for Specialized.
