Hi Everybody,
Funny or not so funny how I got here.... Have owned, ridden & loved and my 2011 Trek Remedy 7 all over CO/UT. Such an awesome bike. We were going to Tuscon about a month ago with our bikes. The dealer where we buy our bikes gives free annual tune-ups to buyers. My Remedy was fine but I thought I might as well, so in she went. I told the service. Mgr. "You know, it may not be the newest or most modern, but it's so damn good I don't think I'll ever replace it." He agreed. I get the call the next day, expecting to hear it's ready for pickup. Me: "Hello?". Them: "Hey it's us. Uh, there's a problem." Me: "In my head I'm thinking chain, maybe new cassette." Them: "Actually, it's a bad problem." Me: "?". Them: "Somebody stole your bike". Me: " Say what????". Them: "We didn't see it happen, but on our video we saw a guy walked into our store, go all the way to the back, through the closed service department, and the next thing was we heard the emergency exit door alarm go off. We didn't see anything missing but started to inventory everything in the area where the customer bikes are kept waiting for service. After reviewing everything, we determined yours was the only bike missing". Me: " Crap".

We just bought Carol a Specialized e Vado at Christmas but I planned to stay with my Remedy. I didn't want to give up good singletrack performance and we didn't have the $ for a good lightweight singletrack e-bike. After riding with her, I realized I couldn't keep up with her. The dealer offered to replace my Remedy with the current version. I thought well, if they'll credit me for that, and there were new Trek e-bikes on sale, maybe we could do it. Their Fuel EXE 9.9 XX1 AXS was on deep sale, so with the credit, we got the bike. It's cool, and has been impressive in the little bit I've gotten to ride it. I hope you enjoyed my story more than I enjoyed my journey getting here!

That’s a good story. I’m glad the LBS came through for you. You’re gonna love ❤️ the Fuel EXE AXS.

Would have been a lot simpler to say, " I've got myself an emtb" . 'Cos that's an full essay on how to write long-windedly.🤣
Disagree, interesting story - just when you believe you've heard it all before, something new comes along to disabuse you of that belief.

Thanks for taking the time to write an interesting story. The mystery is why the crook chose your fourteen year old bike over a shop full of new ones. That hobo is going to be up for a rude awakening when the drugs wear off and he discovers his mistake. Anyway, it worked out well for you. That new Fuel EXE surpasses your old Remedy in every aspect that could possibly be surpassed.

It would but then you wouldn't have this to complain about

Thanks! Agree totally! My Remedy was battle-scarred and no looker. It was on the hook closest to the back door so that was that. This new Fuel EXE is awesome, can't wait to singletrack it. Cheers!

Probably went because it happened to be nearest to the escape route.

I thought story is great. New emtb sounds awesome. Unexpected upgrade.
Thx! Haven't been able to singletrack her yet due to winter westher, but am getting in a lot of gravel miles so far and it is incredible. Unexpected upgrade haha, you are right!!!

Nice... sounds like the best excuse to upgrade to a new bike. I will give it a try on my partner and report back to the group. Thanks for the great idea! 👍

Bummer that you lost your ol girl.
Glad your bike shop came through for you!
Things happen for reasons. Now your on for some new adventures!
Cheers! 🍻🍻

Haha, old bike out the back door, new bike out the front door! All you need is a large pile of cash. Oh well, it's only money, can't take it with you, it wasn't my fault, etc. Those are all the lines you want to rehearse haha.

Brother, I'm sorry this happened to you. Nobody wants to lose a bike that they love. Enjoy your new eBike, it's going to open a whole new level of riding for you.

Be safe,
Rod

Thanks Rod B., kind of you. I was really sad to lose my great bike, especially stolen out of a store! We had done so much together, seriously. Already starting to enjoy the new bike and do really long rides on non-singletrack stuff with Carol on her class 3 e-bike. Cheers!

Just reporting back, about 300 miles later... all you guys who said just wait you're gonna love this new ride - man, we're you RIGHT! It felt really long and slow-turning at first and difficult on singletrack and switchbacks. Quite a change from a 26" Remedy 7 (RIP, wherever she may be). Got the suspension dialed, the mino link flipped to have steeper rake and quicker turning and decided to go tune the power delivery. What a difference in every way - without assist and with it. As i hoped, it does great with no assist, climbs steeps super-well, and it feels just like riding my old Remedy 7 - light and flickey. On this bike I was getting smoked on long flat roads by Carol on her class 3 Specialized, so I picked up a Speedi. That pushes the max speed out to about a sustained 23-24 mph. At that point no more speed is available as I'm just over-spinning, but it's a great add. This whole e-assist with the TQ motor is unbelievably cool. I can still work my butt off getting as much workout as I can handle, but also has enough assist available so not every tough singletrack climb is a death march. Gonna be a lot of fun
