It would have been OK if you just kept heading South West ..at least until you reached the sea ..Was going to ride this morning but decided against it. No prize for guessing why that was

OK heading North East with wind behind us but coming back the opposite direction would have been 'interesting' ...It would have been OK if you just kept heading South West ..at least until you reached the sea ..

According to your chart the wind was blowing in a South Westerly direction ..so it was coming from the North East ..and believe me you wouldn't have wanted to be up here today with 4" of snowOK heading North East with wind behind us but coming back the opposite direction would have been 'interesting' ...
It was blowing from the South West. As can be seen by the arrow.According to your chart the wind was blowing in a South Westerly direction ..so it was coming from the North East ..and believe me you wouldn't have wanted to be up here today with 4" of snow![]()
Wrong ...the arrow is pointing to the S.W...suggest a trip to spec savers ..and if your vision is that impaired and are unable to read the small print it says WIND DIRECTION SOUTH WEST ..which means in case you need it spelling out ..the wind was blowing in a South Westerly directionIt was blowing from the South West. As can be seen by the arrow.
Well aware of that ..but this chart is different ..it shows the actual wind direction on the " clock" as being to the South West( the point on the arrow pointing this way) ..therefore it is a North Easterly wind ..From Wikipedia;
Wind direction is generally reported by the direction from which the wind originates. For example, a north or northerly wind blows from the north to the south;[1] the exceptions are onshore winds (blowing onto the shore from the water) and offshore winds (blowing off the shore to the water). Wind direction is usually reported in cardinal (or compass) direction, or in degrees. Consequently, a wind blowing from the north has a wind direction referred to as 0° (360°); a wind blowing from the east has a wind direction referred to as 90°, etc.
Weather forecasts typically give the direction of the wind along with its speed, for example a "northerly wind at 15 km/h" is a wind blowing from the north at a speed of 15 km/h.[1] If wind gusts are present, their speed may also be reported.
Wind direction SOUTH WEST always means wind blowing FROM the South West.Wrong ...the arrow is pointing to the S.W...suggest a trip to spec savers ..and if your vision is that impaired and are unable to read the small print it says WIND DIRECTION SOUTH WEST ..which means in case you need it spelling out ..the wind was blowing in a South Westerly direction![]()
No, this chart is NOT different. If sailors relied upon "The Hodge System" of wind direction the results would be at best hilarious and at worst disastrous.Well aware of that ..but this chart is different ..
Errr..No!Went for a cheeky 25km ride on Saturday and followed it up with a lovely walk at the beach today.
See if you can pick which photo is from which day.

Irie.
Having just agreed with me that the direction of the wind is TO the South West ...
OK Mr.Squint ..please see the last sentence and note the word " to"..then below your green tick ..which denotes the fact that you have agreed with what I have written..Please show where I have agreed with you? You are in denial of posts by the Met Office, Wiki, and others who have posted above. You are plain wrong.
I agreed that "the chart" is different, not that you are right, which you are not. Keep wrigglingOK Mr.Squint ..please see the last sentence and note the word " to"..then below your green tick ..which denotes the fact that you have agreed with what I have written..
Unless of course that means the complete opposite to you sailors

You really don't read anything at all do you in your haste to prove how clever you are( not!) ..Here's what the Met Office today forecasts for a location near you I think? You'd better call the Met Office and tell them they've got their graphics wrong. Good luck.

Ignorance is bliss. Fin.You really don't read anything at all do you in your haste to prove how clever you are( not!) ..
I've already said earlier ..if you cared to look that the Met Office has a much clearer app ..and is the one that I use when checking weather, wind strength & direction ..
To be honest I've wasted enough time on a complete bore like yourself ..so go ahead and enjoy your knitting / crosswords/ jigsaw or whatever else fills in your day ..![]()
