It's been a while since I last posted here. A lot has happened, big crash at the bike park. A week in the hospital, a ruptured kidney and spleen and four broken ribs. I was late to go on the already traditional Alpine road trip. No bike parks this time, only easy alpine trails and no falling. However, it was nice and better than sweating at home.

Not so good that's a sore one . Get well soon

..what ..a few minor injuries stopped you from riding ?
I always thought you were made of sterner stuff !😉😁.
Hope you are recovering well mate 👍🏻
It would have been great when I was pissing like red wine. Too bad it wasn't red wine. Otherwise, I would have been self-sufficient. 😜

The day didn't start too well when my planned ride in the heart of the Cheviot Hills had to be aborted 9 miles from my starting point as at Alwinton there was a road closure ..no prior signage to warn of this so I threw my rattle out of the pram and headed back from whence I'd come (40 mile round trip.. and I didn't want to start from Alwinton ) so instead did the Deadwater & Osprey Trails at Kielder ..
Somebody upstairs obviously took offence at my hissy fit and decided to ensure my ride was as wet, windy & cold as it could possibly be for the time of year ..but hey-ho it was still fun 😁

Im correct in thinking that the next section has been deforested now?

I was in Kaunertal last autumn and planning on one or the other day biking but Covid caught me the 2nd day, being down for 3 weeks. 😠
Kaunertal seemed not to have interesting trails? 🤔 But Nauders around the corner has (trail map) - as you reported from your last years tour. 👍

You would be correct Tyjay .." Into The Valley " being the section in question ..however all is not lost as the trail itself has been saved & also improved and once you get used to the trees not being there anymore it feels like something new has been created .
Three Dog Climb is still closed on the Deadwater Trail due to ongoing forestry work ( diversion in place ..but easy to miss if you are going at speed ) ..and also the singletrack climb to Hill 375 on the Osprey Trail with a diversion down Osprey Chick onto the North Shore road / Lakeside Way ( if you don't know the other alternative) ..
The last singletrack sections on the Osprey Trail are now ( in the space of a week ) more of a challenge as the bracken / long grass & thistles on the side of the trail make it difficult to see where the trail goes if you don't know it well ( needs strimming) ..it's shot up in the last week ..so gives you a good thrashing !😏

Actually I was in Nauders, but yesterday a lot if rain. So we came to Serfaus. Easy riding at blue trails.

Holidaying in Benodet (Brittany) decided to have a day out in more challenging terrain that the flat-as-fuck coast. So drove an hour to Saint-Gildas-des-Bois where discovered could park next to the chapel. Rode out into increasing challenging terrain until had to sort of half walk half ride down narrow gulleys infested with brambles between fields. Mrs crashed then 10 minutes later realised she'd lost her Oakley Jawbreaker Trail Torches in the crash! Bummer. Didn't get any pics of the crash site, it was nasty, bike was on top of her and I was riding behind and lift it off her! Fook.

Some pics.

Edit: were told the trees were felled by storm Ciaran.

She's keen mine don't like the jarring you get when off road so it doesn't happen
Glad I got out yesterday, it's pissing down today!

I'm fed up complaining about the weather . I'm heading South to Yorkshire next week the rain will probably come with me. Dry today so I plan a road bike run.

Billy no mates today ..so travelled down to one of my favourite trails "Bolts Law " ..otherwise known as the Lead Mining Trail starting from Edmundbyers .
A ride of two halves as instead of doing the full loop ( didnt fancy the 5mile road section) I did a there & back then travelled by car to Blanchland and did a loop taking in Slaley Forest / Carriers Way .
The trails were sensational with barely a puddle spotted all day ..quite amazing as there are a good few stretches of deep standing water normally but these were bone dry today ..
Didn't escape a drenching though for the sake of 2 mins trying to keep ahead of a black cloud chasing me across the moors it caught up with me as I was dismantling the bike to put it in the car ..and it was torrential ( the bastard !) ..
Anyway a few pics ..

If you live in the North East of England and are stuck for a ride tomorrow ..you could do worse than this 😁

Have you been pulled up by the rope? 😉

Thank you very much for sharing! 👍 🍻 A interesting trail with long history from the mining industry what I would not expect when seeing the pics and found out when checking for that tower.

10 / 10 for searching and your quest for knowledge ..however ..although that is also known as Bolts Law ..its not the Bolts Law that I was riding ..its less than a mile away and I can only think when it came to naming these hills the person in question must have been as thick as two short planks ..
1000007213.jpg

The Bolts Law I was on is top right ( 540m) ..and the workings which you have found are on Boltslaw Incline bottom left ..
Good effort though !

Another local pedal on the Stumpy hardtail this morning while waiting for spares to fix the eeb. IMG_8118.jpeg
I live about 15 miles north of Newcastle and I did a there and back from mine crossing the Wansbeck River via the dam south to an old mining village of Cambois (pronounced “Kamis”). Nice gentle paths leading to some good dune singletrack to North Blyth. Only out for an hour or but was a nice easy ride. IMG_8110.jpegIMG_8111.jpeg
Looking out to sea and the back up the river from the dam. IMG_8112.jpegIMG_8113.jpeg
South side of the Wansbeck estuary.
IMG_8114.jpegIMG_8115.jpeg
Looking south to kamis and the port and the now redundant silos that once supplied the long gone Alcon smelter. IMG_8117.jpegIMG_8116.jpeg
Finally looking north to Newbiggin by the sea…….this is an often overlooked part of the Northumberland coast quiet and beautiful.
This is the same county where @The Hodge rode yesterday. I would have been out if the Whyte hadn’t been off the road 😎
Northumberland is a great place to ride a bike……
