SZZS specific CEF50-main thread (initial builds and troubleshooting related only)

I received the delivery last week, gave up painting and assembled it. The motor seems to be better than I thought, and the frame is... questionable. Going to do a real test in the mountains tomorrow.

This setup is Mullet, how do u feel? And can U tell all the spec here and what battery size u buy 720 or 410wh? thx.

Sorry you're having frame issues. 😞Hopefully, the ZSSZ's engineering team will help solve it soon for you.🤞

Any comments on two M820 motor concerns;

1) How's the noise loudness during S+/boost modes... especially while climbing?

2) Were you able to activate "Rocky mode"?
To me, the difference between s mode and s+ mode was ambiguous, and there is noise compared to the m510 motor, but it doesn't seem to be annoying.
I haven't tried activating "Rocky mode" because I don't know how to run it. But now that I know how, I'm going to try it on my next ride.

Sounds good🤛.

Apparently for "Rocky mode" activation...push ++ twice quickly in any power mode for the "sustained burst".

Good luck 🤞

I'm sorry if this has been asked before. Does this use a spoke magnet or rotor magnet? Also do we have to byo or is it supplied?
The CEF50 uses a rotary magnet. There is no difference which magnet to use. I am currently using a spoke magnet with an M820 motor

So I got the parallel battery controller I ordered. Smaller than I thought, which good. So this one has two battery in ports, one motor port and one charge port.
It is supposed to be a two way swtich.
So if battery one is higher voltage than battery two it swtiches to using battery one only, until battery one voltage drops to equal battery two. Then it swtiches on battery two. If either batttery once again falls below the other then it switches off that battery until they are equal again. This prevents either battery from discharging at high dangerous current into the other battery. It also has a separate charge port.
If there is room inside, the motor port gets connected to the motor, the battery to battery one and the charge port and battery two would go outside the frame.
The battery/motor ports are XT60's, which will have to be changed and the charge port is an XT30.
The one I got is the dual-battery 20 amp with charge port

@LAnton Of course, if the motor has an XT30 the battery must also. So I will need to change the connectors to all XT30.
Thanks LAnton. Do you think there might be enough room inside to fit the parallel switch or is it too tight?

Jean told my frame was painted and the motor would be ready in two days but the 410wh battery is being revised and delivery time will be longer.

I hope not a lot longer.

My thanks to Linda and her engineer for confirming that my bottle battery "guess" was correct. Just arrived from Aliexpress and here is an image of it on my Orbea Rise for perspective. The dimensions are 188x77x77 and I don't think any bigger would fit.

I'm happy to see these showing up in the wild. I ordered mine a bit later then you all and am still waiting on a motor before it ships.

The battery is 3.35 lbs and is the 36v 7ah, with Sanyo cells, which I think is the largest you could fit on the frame. The larger cases are 238-310 in length and I don't think they will clear the shock.
Hey Mike, what's the Wh on your extender? 310Wh-ish?

Also, great work when it gets set up! 🤛

We gotta name it: DIY-Mike-Bike-battery-extender-protocol (DIY-MBEP?).🫡😁

Now, the smaller main battery can be ridden lighter with shorter rides, then heavier for longer/elevation rides...options baby!🤙

Same for bigger battery peeps! And options for multi-day truck camping trips specifically for me!⚡

Yes exactly what I had in mind. We do a lot of 2hour rides and my wife is sensitive to bike weight. So 360 whr internal and then depend on external for extended range. The battery is 36vx7ah=252whr. I would have gone for larger but I wanted it to fit nicely and cleanly in the bottle cage. I have a 540whr battery on the rise and I have no problem doing 20 miles with 1000ft elevation change with half a battery. So this should be similar.

hi. on the rise (shimano) how you connect the extender ?

I know we've all been waiting to hear what the max output wattage is. I don't know if you saw this video or not but I thought I'd share. Make specific note of the m820's quoted output power is (420w peak). Also as a side note that motor is tiny in his hand. Love it!

Wow! Every since Forestal Cyron Demo last year or so, Steve Jones' view on Bafang has 180 deg. He almost couldn't even utter the name "Bafang" or even look at an orange/black bike paint job. 😁

Good job Steve on being a little less of a bike snob. 😉JK I luv Steve's OG accumen and glad he finally can actually praise Bafang now, rather than fear them!🍻

From watching what I can only call a metric ton of ebike DIY video, the general feeling seems to be that Bafang make the most well constructed motors for the money. Other notables CYC, while the most expensive the photon is the quietest and best quality product if moneys not an issue. Tong Sheng apparently has great torque sensing for the price. Just a few observations.

So is that Jm's LC930 in the video?
NO can't be with the curved top tube. So I wonder where that came from?
