I know some of you will be screaming at this post but bare with please 😉 I’ve treated myself to some new Hope Fortus 30’s with the new Pro 5 ebike specific hubs but, I don’t like those loud hubs that are so fashionable at the moment, I prefer the stealth approach when walkers are about 🤣 no seriously, I want some grease to quieten them down to a level where my fillings are not destroyed 🤣 as usual guys, any help would be appreciated please, if I don’t get any help I’ll assume this post has been met with total disapproval 🤔

Well I'm not saying this grease is correct but it's what I use on everything on my bike.
Its a blue coloured marine grease that resists jet washing and seems to work well on my bike.

Well done, thats exactly what Im planning myself, and Ebike specific rear(front is pretty much the same as the pro4) I've be opting for either purple or blue.

Are they as beautiful as in the pics ?

You guys just don’t disappoint, many thanks indeed for the recommendation of the marine grease, I will look at both that and the park tool grease too.

To be honest I think they’ll look even better in the flesh, my Hope cranks, pedals, and Kiox mount all looked better in person so I doubt the wheels will, I also ordered the Hope decals too, I know they were £20 extra but that remains to be seen what they look like when they arrive, they look good in the picture but they might not get fitted 😉

New pro 5 have different sound to pro 4 as superior pickup although not sure about ebike specific as less Poe than standard.
Not done lots of research as don’t like Hope 😂

With a pawl freehub you need a light weight grease .....and not too much or you will pawls sticking. DTSwiss red grease designed for ratchet freehubs is a type of grease that bonds well to the metal surface and only needs a very minimal amount to prevent wear. How much it will quieten the freehub is an unknown as with a 6 pawl hub that is largely to do with the strength of the pawl springs.

Dumonde Tech Pro X Freehub grease

I have some Industry Nine Hydra hubs and they recommend that grease. Stock they use the Dumonde oil but say use the grease if you want to reduce the pawl noise.

It really made a difference from loud angry bees to almost silent. Seems to last about 6 months before they get loud again.

Why don’t you like Hope stuff, have you had a bad experience with a component

Thanks for your reply Mike, and thanks for the recommendation too, the new 6 pawl system is a new setup for Hope apparently where all 6 pawls are in contact with the toothed ring, I’ll check out some of that grease now, I’m off work and plenty of time on my hands at the moment 😫

Many thanks for your help mate, I’ll check out that grease now, must be good stuff industry nine hubs, they’re dogs danglies 😉

It looks like I might have to suck up the hub noise, I had a bit of a brain storm and I contacted Hope, they use the Mobile grease XHP222 recommended by Bones 🙏 but they don’t recommend using any more than what’s already in there as it could effect the pawl engagement as has already been mentioned, I’ve found some at a good price so I’m gonna get some for when I need to do anything else on my bike, cheers guys 🙏

I use the Dumonde Tech Pro X like the above poster, it made my annoying ass hydra hubs tolerable. I can get about 100-150 miles out them before they become annoying again.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure if you order decal they come factory fit ? 🤷‍♂️

I’ve ordered extra red decals that stick on over the factory decals, if those red ones come already fitted I don’t suppose I’ve got no choice, thanks for letting me know though mate 😉

I was about to say I'd be really careful mucking with it
I bought some second hand fortus30 wheels with the pro 4 hub - I stripped them and serviced them, got the grease wrong and every time I let off the pedals kept going round cos the hub was sticking

I couldn't find the genuine stuff so used Peatys speed grease very lightly - spot on after that
Hope hubs and the noise go hand in hand, gunking them up with thick grease to quieten them down will end badly IMO

Thanks for your reply Phil, I have the grease that Hope use on their hubs and they also advised me not to add any extra grease, I think I will adhere to this advice and just use the grease for my new bearings and other jobs on my bike when I’m able to, cheers Phil, appreciated mate 😉
