Duke916 and I are going to have an epic Taupo mission this coming summer.
Saturday will be Tree trunk Gorge and Pillars of Hercules with a quiet sift back to Turangi along the Tongariro river trail. Sunday being W2K then on to the K2K. Back over K2K and a stop for a bite to eat then back to Whakapio Bay via the Headland Loop.

Haven't set a date yet but anyone interested drop me a PM and I will jkeep you in the loop.

Mountain Bike Trails & Parks in Taupo | Love Taupo will give you a little info.

Ooooo that’s very tempting! What’s the pace for these kind of rides? Is it more sightseeing or fast paced?

Will be a sightseeing ride for Tree trunk Gorge & Pillars. Sunday will be a little faster paced but not much. That will be due to the wider trails and a couple flowy sections. On the way back the Headland Loop is always fun to pick the pace up on for a little adrenaline hit before the ride ends. Anyone had enough can bypass that loop and continue on the main trail.

Anyone looking to fill some time next Saturday - @Duke916 has a ride happening.
Saturday 17th Oct - 10.30 ride start.
Atiamuri to Whakamaru and back. Stop for lunch at Russmans Cafe, Whakamaru (awesome burgers & fries) ... oooo, did I mention some nice cider or ale? then back to Atiamuri.
Just a cruisy ride - not a race.

However - The Taniwha on 7th November uses this section so you can get a little forward reconnaissance in. Heck, while we enjoy a burger and a beer you can tear off to Mangakino and scope out another section.
The full course is Waipapa -> south.

I envy you guys. I spent three months in New Zealand In a camper van travelling, surfing, a long time ago and would live there tomorrow if I could. If anyone wants to adopt me. ?

I'd like to go riding around there too :). Maybe a holiday in the post covid future, if there is such a thing.

Will concentrate on the G1 - G3 trails mostly with a couple 3.5 or 4s thrown in for fun. Riders are welcome to hit the gnarly stuff with the sheer drops and gap jumps .............. the rest of us will watch ;-)

Ride 2 - Rotorua. Saturday 30th January. 10.30 ride start from the main carpark - Waipa State Mill Road.
Hosted by @duk916 this is a Non Boring Bits (facebook group) ride so will be a mix of ebikes and non ebikes. As usual, nobody has indicated attendanceso could be 2 riders or 32 riders.

This ride will be The Forest Loop.
Starts from the main carpark and uses the new trail that goes right to the top through the old Rock Drop trail, across Arepa and up to the water tower. Drops down alongside Tarawera Road then with assorted trails goes along past the Blue & Green lakes then up and around some trails most have never seen and out onto the paved section alongside the Rotorua-Taupo Road. Rider that have run out of steam can continue down there and back to the start, or can continue along a couple singletrack trails and a bunch of forestry trails to exit right across from Planet Bike (Awesome coffee) and then either on to a few more trails or back to the carpaprk.

I'll come!!!
Can someone pick me up? It's on the way I'm sure. I'm just out of Munich. ;-)
Shit I would love to be with you. Currently 0 degrees here and snow everywhere in the hills. All ski areas are closed due to Covid. I am holed up wanting some exercise!

How I wish I was there so I could come and join the ride out. Stopped on a campsite called cozy cottage there a few years ago now while touring New Zealand.
