Seeing @penguinni 's beautiful picture above showing a lush green Irish trail reminded me of a ride we did on the McKenzie River Trail in the Oregon Cascades a while back. The trail goes through old growth forest and has Rhododendrons spilling over it.

This evenings steady ride.
Still finding new trails within battery range of home.
This trail looks like it hasn't been travelled in years.

With all the challenges out there in the world, it is all too easy to forget the beauty of nature that surrounds us.

I have posted some photos from near Dudley, West Midlands, UK.

One of the photos shows the Parkhead Viaduct. Originally constructed from wood in 1850, the current brick construction was completed in 1880.

The other photo shows the entrance to the Dudley tunnel. Although the brickwork shows 1884, the 2.9km tunnel was actually completed in 1791.

It fills me with awe when I consider the incredible abilities of engineers from that era.

The West Midlands is well-served by canals. Though rendered obsolete by railways and motorways, they have a new lease of life serving leisure pursuits: cycling, walking, boating, etc. Birmingham actually has more canals than Venice and in recent years many desirable canalside properties have been built.
