Buy a 540w battery for spare battery or wait for 700w out?!

"The development of the battery is a lot of work and needs a lot of testing to fulfill the legal requirements and certifications.
Due to the coronavirus crisis there have been delays in the development of this battery, but we will definitely release it at some point in the future, but most likely not within this year."

That sucks BIG time!! Guess my Levo with 700wh will Reign alone in the near future.... So annoying when all my mates have Levo's with 700wh batteries and a grim smile every time i choose to take the Decoy for a group ride....

Why? How far do you ride? I've only managed to drain the battery a couple of times, but I was probably more drained than the battery by the end of the ride. Both rides were 37k and 1500m vertical with lot's of technical climbing.

Where I could see the bigger battery being useful would be if you were on an all day touring/excursion somewhere with a stop for lunch, but for my regular riding I'm done before the battery is.

I have 630Wh on my wife's Norco, when borrowing it to ride with my friends on their bikes...
My friend with the Meta Power and 504Wh got battery anxiety issues first, he starts saving battery and slowing the pace. He only got forced to ECO once.
My friend on the Decoy doesn't complain about battery anxiety, but he does save battery.
Me on the Norco, never saving or anxiety.
Still, I decided to get a Decoy to myself so I'll see on my own.
The last of my buddies just got a Norco for himself, so it's going to be interesting

I would be really surprised if YT don’t go with the new 630wh Shimano battery for the next bike, if only becuase it a hell of a headache to go down the third party battery route both in terms of development and after sales.

I think it's very nice to be able to update the bike with a bigger battery and more powerful motor (Shimano EP8). My friend has Turbo Levo with 90NM torque 700WH battery. I can't keep up with him when ascending and I have to monitor my battery range constantly when we go out riding together.

the guys at the YT Mill confirmed to me that the 700 wh battery is coming, so we just have to be patient I suppose.

But seriously the bike needs more range . Im getting about the same range and time . The decoy is great as a DH bike and replacing car shuttles but a 2 - 2.5 HR trail ride is a bit short .

Seems like you are getting a little less range with your battery than I am - unless you use Boost a lot?. Totally understand why you want the bigger battery though. I'd also take one if it was available.

This is my ride from yesterday. These trails are a little harder on the bike than my longest 37k/1500m ride, and I used Eco much more on this longer ride. Trail mode for climbing, Eco for the DH runs. 1 bar/17% left on the battery. I ride the bike pretty hard.

I think the main reasons for battery consumption are the terrain I ride, my body weight and of course the speed . I weight 100kg with the gear + ebike. I'm quite fit and I use 90% trail mode.

Did that drain the battery? I did a very similar ride on my Vitus recently, all in trail with a 2 year old 504wh battery and still had a bit left in the tank - you should be getting more than that if all in eco?

I outweigh you (not bragging) and get twice the range you do, or more, riding in trail or tuned-up eco mode.

From last weekend, did it in ECO low and ended up with ~1 bar left at the end.

I was still hoping for the larger 700 wh battery as I’d like to rely on the bike more. As it currently stands, I have to nurse the battery and really push myself to get this kind of vert.

We were all saving battery, we had to boost the third to last climb
We are all weighing between 150 and 165 pounds, except for my Commencal friend 190-200.
The Commencal was the only e-bike forced to ECO because of the battery drain.
Total 20 miles, 3+ hours and 5350 feet of climb

I have drained it several times, no stress. I Also have a Levo with 700wh batt and so does several of my mates. I would really like to ride the Decoy with my mates and not always have to take my Levo. When I bought the Decoy In March YT told me on mail that the 700wh battery would come out really soon.
