I mashed my tibial plateau on Friday riding my Levo - I was washing out on a bend, instinctively put my foot down and the energy of the impact and rotation caused a serious injury - on their severity scale of 1 to 6 it was a ...

I was going too fast and it was 100% my fault. I'm not blaming the bike in anyway, but just wanna flag that I think the. extra speed and weight of an ebike were contributory to my misjudgement and the severity of the injury.

Take care out there and be mindful of what can happen even on benign trails when high mass and velocity become involved.

(I will be fine - docs are reckoning full recovery - but it will take months of rehab and I was lucky with the high quality of treatment I received - praise be the NHS).

That's so unlucky ! ................................................... most peoples Levo's don't work ... ;):p:LOL:

Shit. That sounds painful.. Should we be watching out for lots of unusual drug induced posts over the next couple of months ? Are you crutch hobbling soon ?? A friend ripped his hip joint off a couple of weeks ago and amazingly is hobbling around already.

It is surprising what injuries the body can recover from. My Dad had a hip replacement; the surgeon used Dad's leg as a lever to dislocate the hip joint! Trouble was that he also dislocated my Dad's knee at the same time!! He had more trouble recovering from the knee injury than he did from the hip joint replacement. But within a few months he was ballroom dancing! :) Which was great because he couldn't do it before!! :ROFLMAO:

I was caught out 7 weeks ago.......a combination of speed, new wide pedals and trees landed me in A & E. At 49 it takes way longer to heal. Still in pain but not enough to keep me off the bikes.

Hope you have a fast recovery.

I’m also on the side line at the moment due to a fractured shoulder blade after an off at BPW 3 weeks ago. Just about got away without having to have an operation. Its torture now though, got a brand new bike and can’t even take it for a ride?.

At some point most of us take it to the edge. Besides the bumps, bruises, cuts, breaks, twists, and embarrassing moments, it can be a lot of fun. But besides a helmet …safety glasses are so important. I’ve had a small injury to my eye and have since avoided several more thanks to glasses. It doesn’t matter if they’re $10 or $500, you may only get one chance.

can't handle crutches yet, I think all the drugs have messed with my balance so I'm on a Zimmer, Zimmer.

ta all for good wishes.

remember - no points for twatting yourself. better to back off and ride another day.

I did two laps of Dalby Red route yesterday. 45 miles

1st lap, threw in all the black sections and aced everything.

2nd lap, a little hot and tired, bailed out a few times and walked a couple of sections I had aced earlier.

Discretion is the better part of valor .

Still managed to twat my ankle on the pedal on a completely easy section.

Oh and battery ran out 4 miles out, didn't do that before the 85Nm update

smart.

we are the toughest highest evolved thing that ever crawled out of a swamp on this rock and maybe in the universe. we may be as good as it gets.

I would not be at all surprised if other things elsewhere had crawled out of their primordial ooze, rose to great heights and then destroyed themselves long before we started our ascension.

And if it was far enough away, how would we even know if others are out there and thriving right now?

I cannot believe that we are unique. Given the immensity of space and the mindbogglingly huge span of time since the Universe began, there must be something else out there that could be considered as "life".

This is just one of billions of nebula in a galaxy far far away.:

Took a flyer on local moorland singletrack and ended up with a separated collar bone a week ago. I'm 73 and thankfully surgery isn't required. Specialist said it should be fine in about a month. Worse part is I'm righthanded and trying to train left hand to do things it has never had to do in 70+ years is weird

I think a couple of theories why we have no evidence of inter-galactical civilisation are that either we're one of the early ones and there's not been enough time, or they did exist and as you say snuffed themselves out as we're about to. Yeah statistically there should be loads so there must be another explanation.

Anyway. ebikes.

Good luck with rehab - I did the same in my 20's and after 3 days fasting for surgery an arrogant clown walked in and decided conservative treatment was a better idea. I've lived with a floppy anterior cruciate and an irregular surface since - but I can still ride , which isn't bad 30 years down the track.

yow that's annoying. yeah these decisions have long term consequences.

thanks, the surgeon took huge care to have a detailed plan in place and peer reviewed with trauma specialists before executing. who knows how it will work out but I'm in as good a place as possible given what I did. they say they expect near full recovery - should be able to run on it - but it will take time.

I'm assuming I'm off the bike until spring, I'm at peace with that. this year is rehab for stability and range, and early 2021 on the trainer gently getting power back.

I'm 53 so need another 30 years out of this leg, a few months now to set that up is nothing.

also am very very appreciative of the NHS right now.

I think my singlespeed days are over though - that might be a but too much to ask of it after all this effort. gears are going back on my hardtail.

It is clear that those who suffer injury immediately become expert on that particular part of our anatomy....well versed in all the medical jargon......leaving the rest of us to demand that google explain whether they are talking about a dislocated penis or a broken neck. So could people please just say what exactly they tried to fell a tree with.....arm, leg, head etc is good enough. Not all of us watch every episode of Holby City!

Yeah you watch star trek

3 Weeks ago clipped the bars on my very new Giant Stance Pro 29 on a tree at the end of a section of North Shore so a long way down to the ground, landed on the top of my shoulder via my face. Broken glasses which poked into my cheekbone, always impressive to have blood streaming down your face, makes people think you've really done some damage. The shoulder was very painful and concerning as I have been treated for a torn rotator cuff for the past year, thought I'd really done massive damage. When I did venture back to the physio she looked at the bruising (spectacular) and my description and diagnosed ruptured bicep tendons. Turns out it was probably tendonitis in those tendons that was causing me the trouble all the time!! We think I may have cured myself if somewhat painfully, time will tell, at 70 repairs take a lot longer.

You sure that’s not just an artist impression of a burst colonoscopy bag? ?

Check this out and read the comments...

Yep, I was aware that people were turning the Hubble data into coloured pictures, and I knew that they were not just making it up but assigning colours to specific wavelengths. After all, we cannot see most of the electro-magnetic spectrum, but only a tiny fraction of what is there.

Maybe they all fly about in spacecraft powered by Brose motors.

Wow, your injury immediately brought to mind Tahnee Seagrave's recent severe ankle dislocation/fracture from just sticking her foot out in a turn. I used to do that all the time riding flat petals but not anymore! Heal quickly.

Shit, I truly and sincerely hope not ....

Yep. The earth formed not long after the universe. What is the earth now? 5 billion years old? 10 to go? Estimated lifetime of the universe is 1000 trillion years. Plenty of time for other planets and civilizations to evolve and find our fossilized mountain bike tracks. They will ask "who were these crazy creatures?".

yes - it was so fast it was near instinctive but I have to attempt to try to stop that.

there's a great YT channel of people building and testing jumps and features (Seth's Backyard Hacks Seth's Bike Hacks) - as soon as they feel something is wrong they push the bike away and separate from it, they never try and ride it out.

In other words .... still sitting on the launch pad?

No, they took off alright but 600 miles out they heard a nasty grindy noise and had to limp back to their home planet.

The spaceship has been stuck in the spaceport repair dock for the last 750 years waiting for a new motor as this millenium's supply of motors was sold out.
