I have a 27+, 40 mm rims, 3.0/2.8.
I am curious about 29x2.6, (tough here to find a demo).
It s about rims and tires(not system).
Happy trails.

Have rode both sizes in the same bike Scott Genius eRide 720 & 920.
Overall there is not a lot of difference - just small things.
The 27.5 does turn slightly quicker in real tight switchbacks but on bigger, faster stuff the 29er is more sure footed. The 29 wheels go across roots better climbing but the 27.5 possibly a little better descending. I do find making the front end light when climbing to get over a ledge or step seems easier on the bigger wheels. I would expect the 27.5 better pinch protection in rock gardens - but saying that I haven't had any issue with the 29er.

I see a few 'mullet' bikes these days but think that is pure gimmick - much like the 96ers were way back. When the 29er came out there was a lot of negativity as to how they were slower to acellerate and made the bikes unwiedly but that was just bumph. Look at any XC or Enduro race over the past 10 years and most are on 29ers.
