Pretty sure the lithium ion cells degrade even with use which means the 504 watt hour rating should be lower, right?

new batteries are shipped in a deep sleep mode and can last years without any degrading. The first charge removes that deep sleep mode...never to return....although Li-on batteries do then have a sleep ( not the original deep sleep) which means they lose very little charge when unused. The cells degrade over time in proportion to the number of charge cycles and, to a degree, how they are managed but that can be checked by plugging it into a bike's software that has an app showing the battery state.

Short answer to the OP’s question - I’m not really sure. If it’s been kept at storage charge (30-70% SOC) between use with a minimal number of cycles it could be performing as a nearly new battery; however if it’s been stored at elevated SOC (even if it’s not had many cycles) it could be completely knackered. Don’t put too much faith in these “% battery health” measures either - we have no way of knowing how those numbers are calculated, so the only real way you can be sure of the current battery state is by riding it for a full discharge cycle and seeing what you get with your style of riding.

Not a great answer I know, but that is the reality - buying a secondhand battery is a bit of a risk.
