Just back from Hadley after the first ride on my Turbo Levo, and on the last lap, at the bottom of the hill by the castle the chain snapped, was a long push up the hill :)
I made sure that I was in a high gear before starting the ascent so maybe it was the mud, or maybe it was in a lower gear than i thought, lesson learnt i guess, carry a spare chain, or a chain link / tool with me for when it happens again.
Just called the bike shop where i purchased said bike and they are £41 to replace, going to be an even more expensive hobby than I anticipated!
Does anyone have any tips for tool kits / spares to take on a ride, reading posts on the forum searching for replacement chain it seems that most are replaced due to wear, so hopefully it's not going to be a common issue for me.

When I first got my rail I put a sram XO1 chain on and snapped it twice on my first ride out. So annoying. I changed it for a cheaper GX chain and have not had a problem since. Worked out the XO1 chain was to light (hollow pins) to be strong enough to use on an Ebikes.
I now carry 3 quick links and a chain tool. Check the chain regularly for excessive wear and keep it oiled and clean an u should be ok?

Thanks for the info John, i will see if i can get some quick links when i pick the new chain up tomorrow. And a new multi tool with a chain tool incorporated!

Get one of these and fit it in your steerer tube. Got everything u need in it

I'll have a look out for one thanks. Need to get some quick links, although that is proving easier said than done for the shimano 12 speed chains.

I snapped my chain today. It was on a gentle tarmac climb in a medium gear and low assist. It's only done 1816 miles FFS!

Ive just got some shimano 12s links, it was very hard work, and costly. Due to it being so hard work I got two sets. So if you are really struggling shout, and I could post you some to keep your wheels rolling, and you can then sort me out some replacements.
Let me know if you need.

You can use the SRAM 12 speed quick links.

Today I used a SRAM 11 speed quick link to get me home.

Do you know if i can use an SRAM chain on the Shimano groupset, I have searched the internet and it's inconclusive, some say it's fine, and others say not to?

I use SRAM 11 speed chains on my Shimano XT 11 speed, basically because they are cheaper.

I have tried all sort of chains and can’t really tell any difference between a basic decent one and a specialist EMTB one.

With an EMTB is critical to ensure derailleur alignment etc is spot on - a lot of bikes don’t come with the derailleur adjusted properly and this may have been your issue.

Important to stay on top of drivetrain maintenance on an EMTB because any minor issue gets magnified.
